    Default My VT on Acid

    Hello All

Firstly, yes this is all my fault, but I am trying to correct the error of my ways so I come to the oracle for help.

I ran without a battery brace and it hit the power steering pully, sending acid everywhere and I am currently in the process of trying to clean the mess up.
I am going to prep and paint any damage in the bay as well as repaint the K frame (I have to pull it anyways for a sump gasket change).

Now I am wondering what to do with other bits that have been affected. Things like power steering lines, hoses, intake manifold, throttle cable, brake lines, ect. Is there anyway that I can clean them up to look normal again
or is it a case of just replacing everything? I will let the pics do the talking.

Try a weak mix of bicarb soda and water, say 2 to 3 table spoons of bicarb to 10 litres, if the acid is still there it will fizz up, then
flush with clean water, then armorall

Due to the low pH of the sulfuric acid, I would make it a bit stronger, as you need to neutralize quite a bit of acid.

yes your right and i normally use it a lot stronger to clean acid off the top of battries but if you tell people to make it weak they will usually chuck a extra handfull in for good messure anyway

Aqueous solutions of bicarb soda are only slightly alkaline anyway due to the formation of carbonic acid + hydroxide molecules, he should be fine unless he uses insane amounts.

Thanks for that guys, I am currently pulling the accessorys off the engine to get a better view of the damage. I will post up some pics tomorrow to show you guys what is going on.
