Hi just wondering everyone's opinions on which car I should get for my first car?
VE Berlina, VE SV6, VZ Calais????
Thanks, just drop an opinon and reason below![]()
It all depends what you like - I would go the VZ calais as very rarely does a VE look good in my eyes.
I have never liked the look of VE's, too chunky. A VZ Calais in Phantom Black with chrome trims always looks fantastic. Also looks nice in white too.
I'm assuming the calais is a v6... if it has sunroof and leather i'd get that as it will probably hold its value better than the others and looks better than the others
if not that then the sv6 as the berlina looks like arse... not a like a models arse either more like a 70 year old arse
ey, WHAT YOU TALKIN' 'BOUT WILLIS ?
VE's all look like arse, but seriously have you taken a look at a the average VY lately ?
i'd go with the VZ - being a Calais it'll have all the luxury features that the Berlina an SV6 misses out on, not to mention that it still has the Alloytec 190 (Berlina has the 180kW Alloytec, unless its an MY9.5, in which case it'll have the 3.0L version), yet is lighter than a VE.

none...
everyones first car should be a VS =P
otherwise whatever you can afford and still have enough to pay insurance and rego.
also would be good to drive all 3 and see which you prefer driving wise.
VZ is smaller, lighter, has better visibility and probably cheaper to buy, gets better fuel economy than the VE too if I remember rightly. Very dated car though, you've got to remember the fundamental architecture and shape of the VZ is now 15 years old.
VE is a generation newer - safer and but the visibility is terrible, I've never been keen on the looks either. Especially the series 1 Omega, they're spew worthy.
For a first car i'd buy a VZ acclaim personally. Acclaims are good because they are well equiped yet don't have too much bling and crap that's just not needed and will break cost you money in the long run. the VZ because its smaller and lighter AND you can actually see where you are going when driving it. For a first car they are very important features. The worst things about the VE is the SHIT visibility and all the lard it carries. Most cars look like arse these days because they are designed on computer. Computers don't have soul, so they don't know what looks good and bad.
The the VE real smart safe first car, and the pigs should let you be.
Id go vz personally but the ve is the better car all round and I think that's what you want more than personally likes and dislikes the best car for You.

I do have mods in mind, ect wheels sound system lowering and a few other bits and pieces
In terms of the sound system, what can be done for a VE...I dont know much about it so anything would help....cheers boys
You can toss some 20's on a VE and it will ride nice still. Do that with a VZ and. You would be lucky to stuff 225's under the guards when VE's will take a very large wheel size. Both cars have ESP, but the VE's system is better. Plus you have all the airbags and one of the strongest bodies going around. Also lowering these things the ride is less compromised like the VT-VZ's older tech front and rear. The longer wheelbase helps a touch.
Check out the sponsers section ASR-Audio on the front page up top give Phreddy a try.

Another thing is that the VE headunit is integrated in the dash. You have to pay quite a bit of coin to modify it to output to an amplifier or to fit a new headunit. The VZ is just a pull the headunit out and install whatever aftermarket headunit you desire. The only good thing about the VE as far as audio goes is the battery in the boot, but the only difference that makes is the length of your main power wire.
VZ Calais > VE SV6 > VE Berlina
and you would be mad to think otherwise..
Don't be fooled thinking a VE is an all-round safer car. The drivers visibility is greatly restricted to the forward corners and sides when entering roundabouts, merging lanes, parking etc. To me this means you are MUCH more likely to crach your VE than your VS-VZ. So if you think a VE is still safer, just wait till you merge under a bus you didn't see.
The thing is, I dont actully get my P's till early next year. But I have anough money to get a car and I want to start looking around and hopefully have one in the next 3 months or so. Only thing about the VZ calais that worries me is that It might become too old and outdated by next year. ANd I prefer the look of the VE's
Just stick to some pos 4 banger. That way when you run into shit it's not such a big deal. Save up enough and when you finally get off your P's in a million years you can get a nice V8.

That's a good idea the 4 banger.
"Reaper"
hasn't been killed in his long list of VE's and he drives probably more than all on this forum per year.
Also for a $1,000-$2,000 more you could get yourself a VE Calais if lucky. And the 2006-2007 were basically calais running ontop of SV6. Suspension brakes engine identical. Later in an update they went back on the suspension as the pensioners didn't want the sporty ride.

Well hes still human in a. Yet to hear or see a single crash caused by visibility issues. You see more VN-VZ's "which are like Glass shells so easy to see out of - crash and wrap around trees and light poles".. And lets not forget on his L plates he will learn to drive this or any car he picks.Large, chunky, hard to see out of, hard to maneuver pieces of crap
Plus I've driven these cars and a slight head tilt is nothing strenuous. You do that in every car.
