Ok.. Not a Holden I know.
I bought a mint Datsun 200B 2ltr auto.
I know nothing about cars outside of Holden..
Can anyone tell what what trans i should be looking for if I want a manual?

Stay with the auto if it's working well. It's probably a JATCO auto box in it. Perhaps the Aussie assembled ones had something else......Can't remember????
Manual 200Bs I'm sure had 5 speed manual box's??????
Early 200Bs had independent rear suspension and latter ones had a live rear axle. Some were 4 door, some were 2 door.
Not worth much these days I'm afraid. Lots of plastic that rots and very hard to find, and tin worm in the metal parts........Just drive it, look after it, and enjoy it 'till it drops.
The beautifull thing about datsuns is their parts interchangibility. A 5 sp box out of virtually any datsun will bolt up to that engine.
So you can go for a 240K or z even a VL or skyline box will work. If you want to go with something more modern, an sr20 box will bolt up as well.
Shouldn't be picking it up wednesday I'll post pictures then

im out of my mind at the moment...please leave a message
To the 4cyl people out there, anything I can rebuild to put into the Datsun? Or are the L series worth doing anything to?
Note; I can't be screwed with a massive conversion so no fuel injected motors.

Stick with the"L" series, bump ap the compression to 9.5:1, big cam, twin side drafts, and lock the vac advance on the dizzy. If your budget can't stretch to twin side draft Webbers you could use a 32/36 DGAV webber with an adapter plate on the stock manifold, which still gives good results
Plenty of different carby setups around for them. You could turn the motor into SSS spec to give it a bit more go. The SSS models ran twin point distributors and twin carbies that were similar to SU carbies. A Two inch exhaust would be good too.
I was going to fit this box into my 200b SX also have pr rear brake drums

Where can I find a vin/chassis number on my 200b?
Without having to climb under if possible..
I can find serial number? And many others but none seems to be. Chassis/Vin

Should be stamped into the radiator support panel on the passenger side. Or ID/build plate on the firewall.
