Default Need to get my v6 auto towed - safe?

    G'day

My VP auto needs work done but i don't have the space to do it.

My question is, can i tow it along the highway for 10km safely?(i live 10km from town) is there anything i need to know first?

Never had to do it before....

    Thanks

Pretty sure its illegal to tow a vehicle with another C class vehicle, thats why tow trucks pay so much money just to have access for these types of things

although it can be done and I have seen it done

Yes, on the back of a tow truck.

Pretty sure it's illegal in all states to tow a car on public roads using a tow rope.

If the car that will be doing the towing I would suggest you hire a trailer for an hour.

There is no access to a trailer or tow truck today.... thats the problem really.

Say i was to tow it, would it harm the car? I see people towing each other all the time? We have done it before but only manuals.

If you need to tow an automatic vehicle, its always best to disconnect the tailshaft from the diff. Or, if its not being towed a long way, the commodore owners handbooks say not to tow it faster than 55 kph or distances further than 55 km, otherwise the tailshaft must be disconnected.

Phone up and ask your local cop shop. If they say no you can't, then there's your answer. If they say yes you can .. get it writing!

I recently got pulled over by a cop towing a 1970's valiant and after 25minutes of him trying to wrk out why I wasn't allowed he came to the conclusion I have to use a towing rope. He let me go saying I should buy one.... That's NSW all cops are different though

I would say for 10km do whatever you have to do, trailer would be ideal though

Ive towed, and have been towed by heaps of cars over the years, with distances sometimes over 100km or more, and have never once looked like having a problem, ever. As was said above, the problem is the idiots doing the towing, not the actual towing itself. As if the clown towing the wrx wouldnt have seen ,(and/or felt through his vehicle) what was happening, pfff, he must be blind and stupid.

Regardless of the legailities, potential to hit tress/cars/trucks/people.

I'll +1 to what Brett said:

Holden advise not towing an automatic car at speeds greater than 50kph from memory, and if they must be towed, disconnect the driveshaft.
