split second stall

Hi guys, I'm having a problem with my 2000 Holden VT. This problem only happens on the freeway, sometimes when I'm driving it, the car loses power for a split second then instantly kicks back in like nothing happened! In that split second, the light under the temp gauge flashes on & off (engine light?)
Don't really have any idea what it could be & any assistance would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks johnBOI.

Nah mate, it's on petrol.

Hmm, my mate has the same thing with his stato, it only happens whens its on gas though.
