Hey guys
I just got a new set of rims for my vy, real happy with them except they expose the brake calipers and hubs so you can see the dirty rusty things that they are,
I'm planning on cleaning them up and painting them, just can't decide if I like them painted a colour or if black or silver would be better,,
I'm gonna paint the hub flat black and then either green, silver or gloss black for the calipers..or clean em real good and clear coat then..
Let us know what ya think, want to know general opinions, good or bad
Cheers
Mike

I use te cans at sca there about $11.99 a can heat paint but even $3.50 enamel does the job. Just a light sand and paint dont forget to use the sca decreaser on the brakes so they dont fry up and i would paint the wheel arches with tthe shitty sca enamal do the brakes red and black. Cheers Travis.

It took me too long to clean them with a wire brush as it was, bugger polishing them!
I think red will contrast the best with the hot house green.
And dont worry about masking the disc the paint wears of in 2 mins.

I'd be careful painting callipers if your in Victoria as its not legal anymore unless they come from the factory. Just another way for the cops to screw you over for a couple of hundred bucks!

Go Green! Silver polished looks like a big effort!
Just take the calipers off to paint them... You end up with a much neater job and its not that hard to do really
although bleeding the brakes isnt the funnest thing around it should only take 10 or 15 minutes if you can get the right size tubing to fit the bleed on the calipers... i picked up some 6mm clear plastic hose from bunnings for about $5 that does the job nicely
Yeah I have never bled brakes before, the basic idea behind it is too crack the nipple while getting pressure on the brake pedel? Then close and repeat And keep doing it untill no air comes out? And when ya take them off do you have to drain the fluid out of the lines? Guess a brake fluid change wouldn't go a stray after 190000

It took me about 6 hours each one. I hand filed them with a half round second cut file and then used about 7 different grades of sand paper followed by 2 different metal polishes.
That is how it looked after filing compared to an untouched caliper.
You can do it on your own easily enough if you can get some hose that fits the bleed nipple... just keep pressing the pedal till brake fluid comes out (wait till the new stuff appears if you havent bleed the old stuff out already) wait a while and watch for any air bubbles... give it another pump or 2 and see if any more air bubbles appear. If none appear do the nipple back up, remove hose and repeat for the other 3 brakesYeah I have never bled brakes before, the basic idea behind it is too crack the nipple while getting pressure on the brake pedel? Then close and repeat And keep doing it untill no air comes out? And when ya take them off do you have to drain the fluid out of the lines? Guess a brake fluid change wouldn't go a stray after 190000
If someone else has a any suggestions other than the above im glad to listen as thats just the way ive done it every time and has worked well for me
Cheers guys, haha mate good work on the polishing I think I'm gonna go with painting I'm just too lazy too put the time in haha
Thanks again!

RWC testing places may not adhere 100% to ADR's and vicroads standards. Some tend to throw in a few of their own rules, and back in the day they would let some stuff slide, which vicroads would not.
At least no one has raised the old wives tale that if you paint your calipers, they will overheat and your brakes won't work...
