Default E85 - interesting article in VE Garage mag

Hi All, I'm a long time reader, first time contributor (if that's what I'm doing). So I thought I'd jump straight in.

The latest VE Garage mag had an interesting read on e85 fuel with some decent and fair research. Conclusion was e85 is the goods and shouldnt be dismissed as providing genuine power gains. Anyone read the article and have any comments on it?

I've got my MY10 VE SS in for a new exhaust at Sureflo on Friday and then over to Oztrack for a mafless tune later in the day. What do you think, should I load her up with e85 before the tune and get it tuned to this fuel? Or isn't it that simple?

Thoughts, comments and opinions really appreciated

This is the wrong place to ask about any ethanol blends, most people here hate it.

Personally I think ethanol is a great fuel with good gains, but your car has to be tuned for it. Wouldn't run it in anything pre 2008 though as the seals in the fuel system won't be able to cope. (Holden I'm talking).

... and before anyone slaps me down for not doing a search on e85 (which I see does happens a bit these days, not searching and slapping down that is), I did do 1 and couldn't find enough information to satisfy my individual query.

The article claimed an increase of 25rwkw on a stock VE ute and almost 100rwkw on a twin turbo LS1.

i actually have never seen a fuel pump with e85 in it.

also if i remember correctly the v8 supercars run on that?
so i would say it must have some potential if they can use it.
how about we make the pedals out of sticky rubber and the shoes with steel spikes. at least my shins would like that

More power maybe, decrease in fuel consumption definitely. Good for your carbon footprint though, but as I stated in another thread, V8 drivers don't care about carbon footprints.

i picked up the mag today and can't find it online yet, will post it as soon, or if, I find it.

I didn't realise the v8s raced with it actually, I've just returned from a 6yr stay in London so have missed all the changes in the sport. But didn't forget my love of Holden's, had my VE bought with in 2 weeks of getting back.

The E10 stuff from what ive heard does give you slightly more power... however if you saw the rubbish in my fuel filter after running it for 3 months you might understand why i dont like it

Apparently (no actual reference for this just here say) it has been eating out the rubber in the hoses and so forth at petrol stations... dunno how true that is but the stuff in the fuel filter made me think there could be something behind it
