Does anyone race dirt track?
Ive been thinking about getting a car ready for the next dirt season (end of 06) but am not sure where to get hold of the regulations for the build of such a car.
Im looking at barring out a VN and using that, i think its called stockcar class where they use fairly standard cars (minus windows etc etc etc) - as opposed to the open wheelers which dont interest me that much.
Anyone know anything about this or race themselves?
nah but it should be pretyt goot fun ay. what are the rules, relating to wqhat you can do to cars?
my web sitestuff on the XF throttle body conversion, calais interior and lots of other junk!
i'm doing the same thing with the old vh. my team mate has sent off for the rules and stuff, but being the holidays, we haven't heard back. in the meantime we've stripped everything from the interior except the drivers little corner. no dash or anything there.
also dropped the exhaust at the muffler.
we're kinda stopping now til we find the rules.

as for rules - ask your local speedway club.

In Darwin they run Street Stocks under the ASCF which has changed names to speedway sedans australia I think. If you google search you will find their website. I currently race in this class and can vouch for it being a lot of fun.
There is a bit of an issue regarding spec books as you need to register a car to get 1.
P.M. me if you want the phone number for the state tech rep or if you have any specific questions.

While your at it do a google search for redline roll cages. They make an excellent kit cage that will meet the current specs. I have made a few cars with these cages & found them easy to fit. At around $800 it is money well spent.
the vh project is a poor mans project. if possible, we are going to make our own cage. but realistically, we will probably wait till we have money to buy one.

Once you read the specs on the cage Im sure that you will buy one & not try to make a new one. Now that efi is allowed and a lot of the holden drivers will be going to the VR & up maybe you should get in touch with someone up there & get a cage out of an old car. There are a couple down here in Alice but I am pretty sure that they are going into cars for a contact class we have here.
then you have no recourse in somthing fatalOriginally Posted by vh-holden

Speedway is covered mostly by NASR who cover licencing & insurance. There is no way in this day & age that anyone can do anything that is remotely fun without the insurance companies taking their slice.
I have a speedway motor sitting in my datsun 1200 coupe! big ported head, 11.5:1 compression ratio 54/86 camshaft series 2 bluebird high energy electronic ignition, twin weber carburettors 4 into 1 extractors 2 inch straight through exhaust, double valve springs, balanced bottom end!, 9000rpm redline, it weighs 750kg all up and the engine makes 116hp at the wheels I have never had so much fun on gravel with any other car! total cost for my car is $1700 not too bad when you consider the power to weight ratio is comparible to a 250 rwhp commodore only the datto gets 9-11L per 100kmbut it's a pig of a thing to cruise in
