Yes through seperate NSW Regulations. WA have the same prohibition too. The new rule change will bring the rest of the country up to date on the matter, finally.

Do read the full rule changes though.

Does not mean that wa??ers don't use them in daylight or worse at night with traffic. The regulations have always been there in regards to wiring, just not enforced. People do not realise how much they can dazzle someone.

Keepleft, just curious, proposed rule 4.3, is this stating that MC trucks can no longer use a forward lane and a left lane to turn a corner?

It's saying that they now can, legally. Before you HAD to obey the sign on the road. Now, long trucks can disobey it if necessary to negotiate the corner.

Remember, these are not set in stone just yet, this is the final consultation stage. Proposed actual legalese drafting of words/wording remains with NTC and the State groups and is they say, 'subject to change owing feedback'.

I can see more change after this event, I am hoping however its not another 5-6 years for such major change, as it has been for the ARR's - so generally implemented in the States on or about December 1, 1999. Within this time, only small individual changes were made.

This lot of changes has us actually in a very tight spot with each proposal, for example Rule 217 rear fog lights - is not under discussion insofar REAR, but adds the front fog prohibition, all well and good, problem is I am then tied from making a submission that also includes discussion on the rear, to further tighten this particular requirement up.

I need to see those legal wording changes (proposed draft), and this I have to do through channels.

One change that must be clarified is use of the derestriction sign, here our politically correct State transport employees tell us it means 'rural default', it is these individuals who really decide in the end. It certainly does not mean rural-default in the Standard, nor in the UN Convention as the signs final legal owner.

I STILL don't understand what the big deal is with having your fog lights on during the day!!

It doesnt hurt anyone..... Ive NEVER been "dazzled" by a pair of fog lights coming the other way...

About damn time they did something about those stupid spotlights (I refuse to call them "driving lights, or "fog lights"...they're just badly-located spotties...) and morons who drive around with the damn things glaring away during daylight. At night they are a major headache, especially when the tools are coming towards you..."but I don't have my high beam on"...yeah, but you've got those two damn lights on.

What is thier purpose anyway? They aren't yellow, so they aren't fog lights. They are too small and don't have a narrow enough beam to be proper driving lights. So what the hell use are they, except for little-dicks to try and draw attention to thier car during daylight hours. Another interesting point is, how do they get around having to have those spotlights wired up to high beam? I would lay money on them being a purely cosmetic addition to new cars, and one which in increasingly annoying the piss out of everyone else on the road. The sooner teh cops get serious and start handing out fines for using them, the better.

They dont have to be wired into the high beam circuit because they class them as fog lights ( i know they look nufin like fog lights)

As far as i was aware when i used to fit them (fog and driving lights) to any car including 4wds.. Fog lights must only operate when the parkers or headlights are turned on and driving light must only operate when the high beams are on..

Both fog and driving lights must have a isolating (spelling) switch fitted in the system so as they can be turned off

Interesting point 4.49 (Rule 225) about radar detectors. If the proposed rules are implemented in WA then radar detectors will become illegal here :-(

...Tell us what you really think Wombat !!!

I still say Ive never been dazzled or annoyed by any fog/spot/driving lights either during the day or at night. Potentially big 4WD's may be a problem, but those things should be banned from the road anyways...

Btw does your car have foglights? Didnt think so, cos otherwise you'd be using em too...

    #1 rule - Safety,
Ive always been tought that driving with parkers is a safety feature.
Why not go that little bit extra and use the fogs as well.
Do you get angry at the travelers on the highways who drive with parkers on during the day
And yea man, spot lights are designed to shine straight ahead.
--FOG-- lights shine about 8-10 inches infront of the car.
Have you ever eaten a slice of chalk with your burger coz they're like chalk and cheese (callin a fog light a spotty )

Fog lights help in fog, especialy if they're orange or yellow as you said but only if the fogs are all you have on, i respect that.
But not many ppl have yellow/orange fogs
Other than that they are for cosmetic, so you go ahead and flash all the drivers with fogs at night and i hope you get a blinding response.

I am sorry to say, that I agree with that fog lights should not be allowed to use other then what they are made for.
I am getting sick of tools too driving around with their fog lights on, yeah fair enough drive around with your parking lights on if you feel safer that way. But come on, it's like they think they are cool because they have two extra lights to show off. Big f*&king Deal.

Haha, the whole point of driving with them on is so people see your car....derr.

Time after time moron drivers pulled out infront of my VL, funnily enough, not a single person has done that in 2 years with the VP (with the factory 'spotties'). So i for one, will always use them, cause it saves you (you being anyone against using them for 'safety' purposes) tools from writting off my 1 in 300 car. As the other dude said, spotties don't dazzle people, in fact, has anyone had a 4 door festiva driving towards them lately at night, there the cars that you should be winging about.
