    Question Car Cover

OK I'm moving to Canberra for University and the car's coming with me. Only trouble is it'll be sitting in the sun for probably days on end (living on campus) so I really want a good car cover to look after the interior (especially the stereo). One of my mates from work gave me a blue car cover which he didn't want, anyway it turns out it's more of a dust cover and doesn't keep the interior from frying on the hot days. I don't know a lot about covers so what's the deal?? Are they like seat covers in that you can get ones specifically to fit your car, or do you need a large size to fit over a VN??

    Help me out please
    Cheers,
    Sam

Most car covers are simply that, dust covers. Ive seen a few guys with lambswool linned covers, cost them around $1k

    minux - holy sh!t a grand sounds a bit rich for a car cover ! !
yea definitely getting the windows tinted as soon as i can - as for a dash mat - yuck! i've already got black front seat covers on a brown interior, don't want to make it any worse... maybe i'll just keep the dust cover on and just leave the windows down a bit underneath...

scratching - cheers for that azkwazere i'll keep it in mind

or i could just wrap the entire car in aluminium foil every time i park it :P

You can get good quality car covers from AutoBarn, Super Cheap Auto, even some KMart stores etc. The brand is AutoTecnica and they're made in Italy. About the $120 mark. They come in three sizes: small, medium and large. You'll need the large for a VN (or any Commy). They're totally waterproof and wont let any sun in and have breather holes to let the air in and stop condensation etc. The back of them is lined with some soft woolly "non scratch" stuff, although Id still make sure the car was fairly clean before putting it on... Oh yeah and wash it once in a while - I used to just spread it out on the clothesline and hose it.

    Hope this helps...

Which Uni are you going to? Canb Uni most parking is outside with gum trees dropping sap and bird Sh*t. ANU same again although there are some on campus undercover ones. For the ANU you need to pay. Some sort of cover is recommended if you are leaving it for a day or two.

sure there have been raids here, like everywhere else, but i think that's a massive generalisation. for the most part these guys are clean. random drug tests help to enforce this.
on a positive, i like canberra, it's a nice place. never having been here before i have a good impression. a lot smaller than perth, which is a good thing
