Insurers are on drugs??? RACV
I rang RACV to get insurance on the VP V8 I'm buying for the drive home I found out it costs $330 for me to insure an Berlina, but $360 for an executive, which isn't worth near as much. I asked why? he said Executives crash more, I said yeah and they made twice as many of them, of course they crash more. He said well that's the statistics we have, urgh in my opinion that's spazz

yeah..that is pretty typical of insurance companies..they really dont have a clue.
not long ago i moved house (literally 5mins down the road) and when i told them they took $20 a month off my payments??
im not complainin, more money for me..but its weird, how can such a small difference in area make that kinda change.

Yep, rates will change depending on crime rates, friend of mine owns a VT SS his insurance for the same car as mine is $280 a year more because he lives in deadbeat central.
Edit: I think AAMI is the funniest, they wont insure drivers under 30 who own LS1's/LS2's, yet through Just cars insurance they will, kinda funny seeing as Just cars is underwritten by AAMI

I was trying to decide between an SS or a Calais. Rang RACV to find out how much insurance would be. SS = $4,000. Calais V8 = $1,200. Both brand new cars manufactured in the same month.

Maybe. But in my experience they're the best ones to deal with if you actually have an accident.
Also, I've found that their repairers are of a much higher standard than most others.

I rang around, and found that AAMI gave me the cheapest quote for my Monaro....$1060 a year. Some were quoting $2800 and some just would not insure it !

Try getting insurance for a motorbike..... :b:
Statistics are a funny old thing...insurance companies twist them as in your example, but the commonest time we see this is every holiday season, when police and government are seemingly perplexed that when you quickly throw double the amount of drivers onto the road, driving sometimes long highway distances they aren't accustomed to in a short time period, that the accident figures go up...they honestly seem confused as to why accidents happen more often in holiday times...when simple logic says, tragic as they are, it is only to be expected.
Once again, if you totalled the number of cars on the roads during hliday peak periods and indexed it against accidents during the same time scale, the percentage of accidents would probably be no more than at any "normal" non-holiday time of the year.
...but that sounds dangerously like common sense, and we'll have none of that malarky when we talk about road safety and increased fines and speed cameras thank you very much!!!

i got full comprehensive for $980 on my vs..which is lowered onto 18" rims with an aftermarket bodykit (plus a whole bunch of other stuff done to it).
the only conditon is if i have an at fault crash i pay an extra $1k "special premium" for having a kit.
they didnt care about any other mods id done (except for the exhaust which had to be under 3"...which it was)

Ahh body kits....
Last year my daughter bought a brand new *cough* Diahatsu Sirion. Bog stock. Bottom of the range. Only thing it has going for it is it's red, has air con, and runs on the smell of an oily rag.
She got her first insurance when she bought it...$2100!!!!! She then noticed that that figure was for the "sports" model Sirion ( ) which comes with a small front lip spoiler, little thing on the tailgate I think, and small mag wheels, no other engine mods or anything, purely an appearance package...wow...
Her model only cost $1200 to insure (young driver, first policy, rating 5, you know the drill) and we couldn't help but be amazed at the amount a couple of pieces of tacky plastic and a set of cheap unattractive mags which no-one in thier right minds would steal increases your insurance!
