I know this is a commodore forum, however I must admit lots of Holden fans here who generally like Holdens of any model.
Now I have a problem with my holden kingwood ute (HJ 1979)
When we first got it, the brakes were kickass.
But recently, all of a sudden it failed, and we had to push all the way in to get the car to stop.
Then it goes back to normal.
This happened a couple of times.
And now its bad in general, it makes a big hissing sound when we press the brakes, kind of like when you are releasing gas from a stove.
It also takes a while to stop as the brakes dont catch on very well.
Just wondering what the sound may be, and if there may be another problem, apart from getting new brakepads?
ok well for one your slave cylinders in your brakes are rooted....they are obviously semi ceased so i would get right onto that....your booster (if it has one) could have a leak and loses pressure therefor losing brake pedal pressure..... maybe you need to change your brake fluid and adjust your drums..... drums shuld be adjusted every 3 months to keep them in good working order because they wear and the parts can sometimes fatigue
slave cylinders are bout $70 for a pair so if you know anything about drum brakes give it a go but dont even attempt it if u have no clue cos you will most likely end up having no brakes
Booster is the Hissing, will need another one, and the falling pedal will be Master cylinder. You can get the master re-sleeved or exchange it for a re-sleeved one. I THINK that you could get an exchange re-built booster as well.
Just buying from a wrecker is risky as Kingswoods are all very old now. But you've been told that already
