Default Engine cover

I've gotten sick of my Engine cover and wish to paint the thing a different colour.. Using paint stripper on the engine cover is a no no I'm pretty sure (I think I read it in another thread) and the only way to get rid of the paint is to sand it down..

Now I can't be bothered sanding down the whole engine cover on a whim.. Too much time and effort..

Is the best way to get a clean engine cover to just buy one from the wreckers?

Or if anyone in Melbourne wishes to swap engine covers with me (I'll give you my painted one for your clean one) then I'd be ultra happy..

But if anyone has any other suggestions.. Please..

I painted mine on the weekend just past - sorry dude =P

Just give it a light sanding to rough it up a bit and spray right over the top. Don't need to remove the paint.

Are these made of metal? You could get it sandblasted to strip it bare.

Make sure you get some decent spray paint like the stuff that my friend painted his woodheater with It's like rated at hundreds of degrees and won't blister like normal paint. Maybe paint like the paint people get to do engine blocks which I am sure can withstand a lot of heat.

Good luck man

Yeah I've got heat proof, that's what I did the black with..

I'm gonna try and use a chrome paint.. If it doesn't work, I'll just rip the cover off and polish the plenum.

But the engine cover's made of plastic..

Im a painter by trade mate, leave the black if you are painting it chrome. Most chrome paint I have used requires or comes out better with a black base coat.

I wonder if ebay has any aftermarket covers in chrome? It might be worth having a look?

Cheers.. Is it the same with this chrome though..

It's not really chrome.. It's more of a silver paint.. It doesn't turn out chromey at all..

That paint should come up with a chrome finish it depends on the surface prep alot with chrome paints.
I am in two minds on the polish plenum, looks good but I dont like that you can still the stock cast finish on the lower section.
