Removing Rocker Cover's
I'm about to pull the rocker covers of my VX Commo.. Is it a simple matter of bolt off, bolt on? Making sure that the gaskets are in place of course?
I'm about to paint the outsides of them..
Just wanna know if there's anything else I should do?
Cheers..

as soon as you pull a cover off, wipe the area with a lint and dust free rag to prevent oil spillage onto the headers. other than this, just make sure you tape them up well keeping in mind what you can and cant see. if you cant see it normally, dont paint it.

Gaskets are a rubber type seal that sit inside a groove...
I guess you'll be washing your rocker covers with prepsol or something to remove the oil and grease off them...
The best idea would be remove the rubber seals from the rockers so your cleansers dont have any effect on them... clean your rocker covers... then just stick the the seals back in the grooves with some petroleum jelly... and refit to your motor making sure the surfaces where the rocker seals mate to are clean.

A general rule is you don't re-use gaskets unless you have a serious money problem about spending 10 bucks to get another set.

Ahh. They sound like they are the re-usuable ones. I have seen them on eBay for about that price. The price sounds reasonable I guess, but I am not much of a fan on them. It's not like you are going to take your covers off all the time so I would myself be more looking to get the throw away ones at Autobarn or Burson for around $10-$15 a set.
It's up to you really. If you find your old gaskets in good shape then maybe it would be ok to re-use them. Basically the gaskets on the rocker covers stop oil leaking out the cracks because oil gets splashed around in the head.
Good luck man!

The rocker cover gaskets are apparently designed to expand once in service, so chances are if you remove them from the rocker cover you won't be able to get them back in.
On the other hand, I have never had a problem removing the rocker covers and re-installing them. No leaks

I always thought this also, they swell when in contact with oil, I would replace just to be safe.
