IRS and the uneven tyre wear
hey everyone. i was just wondering if the uneven tyre wear issue (the one caused by the IRS) on the vr's vs's vt's vx series 1's etc. can be simply fixed. i don't have this issue, but was curious to know if there was something like a camber kit or i dunno, something, (i'm only 16, so im no mechanical expert) that could fix this problem up. thanx in advance ppl.

Theres a huge range of camber kits now for those models.
Personally i don't see the problem, you barely lose much k's of the tyre anyway, obviously i'm only speaking from personal experience (VP International) but its simple physics, the tyre is on an angke, the tread is still going to be used asif it were flat on the road.

haha, no probs, but i have to admit, my opinion is usually different to most peoples here, as in they'll all say IRS is crap, get a camber kit, but hey, i know whats best for my car.

Personally i love it in my car. but one has to wonder why holden took so long tointroduce it into production when imports have been using it since pre 80s

want me to answer again? i have both....
6 of one, half a dozen of the other really. IRS really only makes a difference if a wheel goes over a pot hole, you wouldn't feel it as much as in a live axle car. Although i do rather drive my VP more, but obviously a manual V8 will outweigh an Auto Carby V8 anyday

IRS is great... very much improved rear control...
my front tyres have worn bad on the outside (bloody stupid not to get an alignment!) so now i put them on the rear and they will wear perfect!!!

I love the IRS so much smoother over bumps... plus I like the IRS squat down...I reckon it improves launches....
Some people hate cause they cant spin their wheels and do burnouts in their N/A 6's... those poor underpowered peeps :P

thanx for all your help people. it's great to know that a 16 year old know-nothing kid can come on here and get answers to pretty much any questions. thanx again.
i was looking throught our VR handbook, and it says that non-irs V6's have 130kw, and the IRS models have 132kw... would that be some weird typo error?
my god, i read through that 15 page thread. some say that camber kits can minimise the uneven wear, some say it does stop the uneven wear, the vx series II's and later models don't have the issue, but some have the issue in their VY's.....my god!

IRS is fantastic, as it helps alot around corners. But I'm not a fan of the current Holden IRS. Beside the tyre issue IMO it just isn't as good as some other cars you can get out there. But the new VE will have a new IRS system so it will be nice to see how well the car handles when it comes out.
