Berlina-not a commodore?
hey there all,
just thought id tell you all about a stupid conversation i had with a customer yesterday. old guy and his wife come into the store and buy a tyre guage, then the wife asks me after staring at the car manuals for a while " dont you sell manuals for berlina's?" to which i replied oh yes commodore manuals, which modle do you have?" she starts laughing at me and says "its not a commodore its a berlina" then she call her husband over and tells him, so he starts going on about how he didnt pay $54000 for a commodore. and that they were totaly different cars. i tried to explain the how the base modle commodore was an excecutive and so on, so then he called me stupid and said i obviously dont know anything about holdens.
then i just said "im sorry sir i dont think we sell any Berlia parts at all, you will have to see holden for genuin parts. i can sell you some executive parts or some calais parts or some acclaim parts or some esteem parts or some Sv6 parts or some SS parts and i even have a small rang of HSV parts but i definatly dont have any Berlina parts. matter of fact that tyre guage you have there wont work on a Berlina either as it was designed for commodores."
anyway this has been ****ing me off for a few hours and thought id get it off my chest. who make these idiots and why do they have nicer cars than me?

Berlinas aren't commodores
Yes they are based on the commodore platform, but they aren't a commodore
Go check out the holden website, large passenger vehicles. Commodore (inc acclaim etc), Berlina and Calais are all separate listings.

Great.
Gimme a Berlina... without the commodore "part" of these cars you will be left with front and rear skirts and apron garnishings, possibly driving lights, velour interior, different badges, and possibly climate control and/or power windows...
Berlina aint ****e...
My exec has craploads more than a berlina got!~ :P hehe...

yeah but it is basiclly the same car in every single aspect apart from a few minor features. same engine, gear box, panels, interior, you name it and it is more or less the same. 99% of the parts would be interchangable. a berlina is just a commodore with different badges and equipment level

SS, S, SV6/SV8, Acclaim, Esteem/Lumina/Exec-plus-free-**** style packs are all Commodore.
Berlina, Calais are not.

Heck, I've even had my WH Statesman described as a commodore with 6 inches extra legroom in the back!! I like to think of it more as a station-wagon with a boot . Let's get serious though. All of us on this forum know how our various models differ from the base model, usually in very minor ways. But part of the reason why Holden can charge $54,000 for a Berlina is that they make the consumer think they are getting a much classier car than a base model with a few bits of trim thrown on. They create it's own identity and the price goes up appropriately.
"Commodore" should be described as a family of cars sharing a common platform, and I wish the lay consumer would wise up to what they're really purchasing.

Yes completely agree... hence my comment above "based on the commodore platform".
It's basically an optioned up commie. Likewise with the calais really, it's a commodore body with stuff tacked on, very nice stuff but it's still a commodore base.
Statesman, HSV, etc, while they can have a similar-ish look, are definitely not commodore.
