Thats very helpful minux, good work.
I see alot of posts asking about vehicle modifications and what can/can't be done, so i decided to get all the info into one post.
Attached are the available mod guidelines for each state (Except Tasmania)
Also, WA is linked,
Western Australia Guidelines
as well as Victoria(pdf file is way big),
Vehicle Standards Bulletins
Victorian Road Safety Act (Shouts to vp_luke for finding this)
Vic Road Safety Act
I suggest if you are unsure of any mod's, that you just ring your local Roads Authority and ask them, i believe some states also require you to fill out an application for mods?
Anyway's, hope some of this can help.

Email from Gerry Ward at ACT Road User Services.

In response to your enquiry below.
To date the ACT modification guideline has not been signed of on. However, there is a new National Code Of Practice for modifications available on the DOTARS website. I have attached the link.

Modifications in the N.T. are run through the Technical Advisory Committee which meets once a month to grant or deny any written modification application. Since these are judged on an individual basis a bit of common sense can get approval for some mods that other states may not approve.
Eg If you are raising the cubic capacity of an engine you must show that the suspension & brakes are upgraded to suit.
The vehicle must still comply with the relevant ADRs & some modifications will warrant an MVR inspect only endorsement.
Yeah similar to other states.Originally Posted by vt1538
However, soon it will defiantly all be a federal setup, which makes sense.

ADR is Australian, so no state should (in theory) be different. Vehicle mods come under Design rules, to make sure its still safe.

state vehicle standards do apply to owners. all (as far as i know) state standards require a vehicle to continue to comply with relevant ADRs (those that applied when it was built).
but basically rules for mods are applied at the state level. (a national code of practice is supposed to harmonise this but the states still have to pick it up in their own regs. and may make changes)
This is actually changing throughout the year where we will see a national standard(thank god)Originally Posted by jules

I noticed you have used the QLD guidelines , this is not usable to the point of law (front cover details this )
if you want to follow qld modification laws , you must follow the Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Modifications.
there are new DOTARS laws coming out , but have not yet been implemented ( they are available , but not general law yet.
i hate vic roads .. they have this MASSIVE website with all this junk on it but ****!!!!! they cant simply place an FAQ section, can anyone help me please, whats the go with the roadworthiness of wheel size, is it still 2" from the stock size? or has it changed these days?
"Forget Fast and Furious, I Drive Slow and Luxurious"
download this: http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rd...340/0/VSI8.pdf
read section 8 on page 3, clearly says "the overall diameter of any replacement rim and tyre must not be:
more than 15mm greater than largest diameter tyre specified by the vehicle manufacturer for that model or vehicle series;or
more than 15mm less than the smallest diameter tyre specified by the vehicle manufacturer for that model or vehicle series
theres more in there, but that pretty much sums up wheel diameter, go whatever diameter wheel you want, as long as the overall diameter isnt 15mm more or less than stock tyre diameters.
Just think. The ADR'S, they're those things that gave us rear bumper tail lights on Four wheel drives.
Everybody watches the ones you can see on the back of the 4wd in front of them don't they, they're at eye height and can't be missed. The ones that are working are down out of sight almost, in the bumper. Car companies spend millions on lighting systems and making them effective as well as look reasonable so why don't they have them working. When are they going to wake up, the one's in the bumpers should be extra to the one's that work. That would be a great step forward in reducing prangs right there.
Old Legislation in Victoria stated that if something was fitted to a vehicle it had to work. If it was illegal to fit, it had to be removed, that was it. Our brilliant ADR invokers could learn a hell of a lot from old legislation. They obviously seem to think, in their delusional state, that they know better. It may not be such a great thing, to have all the vehicle Mods controlled by these people, going on past performances.
