I am with AAMI. they don't allow any modification which will improve the performance of the vehicle. So I rang them and said i want to cancel my insurance because I have lowered it. They had told me they wouldn't continue to cover me if I did it. So when I rang to cancel thay agreed to insure me for the rest of the duration of my policy rather than refund the rest of my money.
Another twist is that I have made many mods, thinking I was changing insurers. out of the blue AAMI send me a renewal notice and then i get a phone call saying they have agreed to renew my policy with the performance enhancing modification (lowering). i told the guy that wa a problem as I hasd done more changes (Exhaust, Chip, Wheels, Tinted Windows, body kit, CAI). He then turns around and says "since we have sent you a renewal notice we will honour it and continue to insure you with these modifications". It is a saving of $700 to me and also allows me to stay with an insurance company I am happy with!! So not all the rules are black and white.
NRMA in NSW allow any legal modification you like. AAMI allow 1 cosmetic mod if you are under 21, 2 for 21 - 25 yr olds and 3 for 25 and over.
Cheers,
Robbie
