The King to go it one last time
Brocky is teaming up with HRT and Co-Driver Jason Plato to tackle Bathurst one last time this year.
Quote:
A Holden Racing Team VY Commodore pulled into pit lane at Queensland Raceway this morning, bearing the famous racing #05, with the names of Peter Brock and Jason Plato on the side window. Brock the 9 time Bathurst-classic victor and Plato the British Touring Car ace who drove with HRT in the 2000 enduro events will share one HRT Commodore and regulars Mark Skaife and Todd Kelly the other.
This will be Brock’s 36th and final trip to Mount Panorama for the 1000k event - the circuit where his remarkable success in Australian Touring Car racing began in the late 1960’s.
“It’s a fitting finale really” said the Bathurst legend. “My first drive in the Bathurst classic was for the Factory Holden Team and so will be my last! It’s a unique place and a unique race and to be part of it once more in one of the HRT cars will be very special.
“I’m not making any predictions but we’re in a one of the best cars going around in the HRT VY and, it’s not as if I haven’t been competing what with my Nation’s Cup commitments and things like Targa Tassie. Jason (Plato) has won a BTCC and notched up a few wins lately so we should give a good account of ourselves.
“I’d like to thank Mark (Skaife) and HRT, Holden and Biante Model Cars for the opportunity and all I can say is – roll on Sandown and Bathurst!”
Brit Jason Plato has a British Touring Car Championship to his credit with Vauxhall and this year is well placed in the UK Series in his Seat. He raced in the 2000 Aussie enduro series with HRT and is keen to return Down Under for another crack at the Mountain.
“I hope the weather is better this year as all I remember of Bathurst last time was non-stop rain for about 6 days! Mt Panorama in the wet isn’t the place to make your debut at that circuit in an Aussie V8 Supercar!
“I’ve been a huge fan of the annual Bathurst race for years, so to get another run around the place alongside a legend like Peter Brock doesn’t get much better for a driver.” Said Plato.
HRT owner and lead driver Mark Skaife said the thought of having Brock join the Team had been around for a while.
“I’d been thinking about having Peter involved since early in the year and the synergy of having him start and finish his Bathurst 1000 career with the Factory team made a lot of sense. His achievements and success there is part of why we’re here.
“I had a chat with Peter and with Holden and we all agreed it was a good idea so, it will be a special moment – one to enjoy; I know the Team is proud to be part of the occasion and I’m sure the fans and the media will respond to it.”
Holden’s Director of Performance and Racing Ray Borrett reiterated Skaife’s comments.
“Peter’s ties with Holden go back many, many years and he and the brand are synonymous. As it is going to be Brock’s last Bathurst 1000, driving for the Holden Racing Team is a fitting way for him to end a 36-year association with the track.”

hmmm... yea.... it would be good to see him get the big one-o... but i doubt he would do it. good to see the MAN back at the mountain though.
whats everyones thoughts on his so-called '10th bathurst win' in the 24 hour? seriously, i wouldnt consider it number 10 cos his 9 other wins are in the 500 or 1000 race... which to me is the official bathurst race.
comments on this subject anyone?

I am in agreement. The 24 Hour was a terrific acheevment, but a Supercar win would be the clincher.

ya i remember joining JC and my first post... somethin aboot commodore utes and subs or something...
ahhh, the days when Jake was a post-whore-matic and we were all still young and uneducated. now look at JC... full of familiar faces and friendships.
anyways, back on topic... i never really used to like murphey... maybe it was all the propagander that one of my mates fed into me back when he was with HRT. but he has talent and is a great driver. i still wanna see seton win the 1000 cos i reckon he is the most talented driver to not win

i actually do hope seton wins this year purely for the fact that he has come so close all the other years and after hearing the commentators go on about him not having taken home a bathurst win had to feel sorry for the guy but when it all comes down to it....HRT all the way if not go murph !
also VSUTE id have to agree with ya there.....alots changed in a year....or half year for some peoples....

i personally think it is abit of a stunt, it hasn't been the best year for HRT and i think this is the way they are getting the attenion back on them.
but who cares hope brock wins.
cheers
