    Default Introduction

Greetings all, I'm new to this forum and I would like to say hello. I just purchased a 2004 GTO and I wanted to go to the best source for information concerning my car. Obviously I'm not an Aussie, my apologies . I am looking for specific information about my car that I'm certain only a site such as this can offer.

I've been trying to educate myself on the pedigree of my car. Please help me to get it straight. The GTO/Monaro shares the same platform with the Commodore? Which Commodore model is it? I take it that there are 2 and 4 door versions of this platform? I looks to me like the VT is the same platform. As an example, in the U.S. they have the F-body (Camaro/Firebird) or the Y-body (Corvette). Does this platform have a name?

Any help will be appreciated as I need to know what parts will fit my car. I'm not the type that allows to dealer to tell me what fits. That is usually because I'm trying to modify things for better performance or to customize rather than perform routine maintenance. Anyway, I'm glad to be here and I'm post pics of my ride soon.

g-day champ, and welcome to the forum, you have come to the right forum.

the gto is based of the vt series commodore, the monaro aka gto was actualy a proto type, the monaro originary ran back in the 70s, and became quite famous with the hk monaro. they ran a 253 v8.
as for parts, well to be totaly honest im not 100% sure, it all depends on what motor you have, be it a ls1, ls2 or the echotech v6. ls1 and ls2 parts would be interchangeable, and same for the v6 parts. i would strongly sugest you track down a member called mr-spares, as he imports to the usa.

as for the platform we use here for our commodore, i cant tell ya, someone will come and tell ya. we are about to get our new model commodore comming out in august/september this year, it will be based loosley on the zeta platform in the states,

feel free to ask any questions, the guy's and galls here are full of usefull info, and useless info at the same time.

    enjoy your stay

Welcome to JC buddy. As far as I remember, and I could be wrong.. our commodores are based on the Y-Platform? Our commodores are only brought out in 4-door models. The monaro and HSV (Holden Special Vehical) GTO are the only 2-door models we have.

Thanks guys. From what I can determine the VT Commodore and Monaro/GTO share the same suspension, chassis, drivetrain, etc. This will do for most of the purposes I have in mind. I mainly need under car components such as fuel system and drivetrain. It also looks to me that the VZ is basicly a sheet metal tweak with minor changes to the chassis. Most parts from a VZ should fit as well.

I guess my follow on question is...what are the model names and year ranges for the cars (2 door) that are the same as mine? Is it the 1998-2004 VT-VZ?

    VY SS rims
The VT (1998-2001) right through to the VZ (2004) all share similar parts like chasis n such. The VT and VX are almost identical, and the VY and VZ are almost identical. What you have is a monaro (essentially) which are loosely based on the VT-VX (1998-2002). So most of the parts you're considering should be a straight fit, except the rear end body work.

I'm sorry to do this to the boss but I have to correct Garth a bit. The first Holden V8 253 was first realised in a production car with the HT series, My commodore was built 23 years after the HT and still uses that same Holden V8 but in a fuel injected version, it's a similar deal to what Chev did with the later TPI motors and vortec heads.

The earlier HK (first Monaro) had two V8 engine choices and those were the 307 and 327 small block chev, this is all happned in 1968, The Monaro has quite a bit of history behind it. A retune on the computer in your machine and a good exhaust can have it running 1/4 miles in the 12 second range. I suggest you have a little look at the videos on this page

    http://waperf.com/gallery.html

To see the same model Commodores as your GTO/Monaro with a bit of work done to them (of course thanks to the USA for the engine design and Mexico for building it )

P.S I had to laugh when crazy old George Bush said Australia reminded him of Texas but man, that grass in your photos isn't far wrong, just need to pull the trees and replace them with some Eucalypts and you would be set

it started its life as a 1994 opel omega, then holden took it and turned it into the 1999 vt commodore (made it bigger/v8), then some ppl made a concept coupe whihc turned into the monaro and the commodore was still made up till now the vz (vt vx vy vz are the same)

foammedia, those are some fast cars. I'm impressed. From what I can tell Texas and parts of Australia have similar climates it might feel a little like home. There are plenty of ranches and trees living off very little water.

RedVB, that is helpful. Thank you.

I just posted a question regarding my fuel tank and commonality with VT-VY cars. http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...959#post321959
If someone has anything to add I would be grateful.
