anyone actually bought a car of e-bay...??
did you go and look at it before hand?
I've bought 2, my VP 5 liter ($3600) and my SL/E ($600)
Never looked at either but I wasn't going to hand over then cash is I wasn't somewhat happy. I expected the VP to be better than it was but later on realised it was in better than average condition, just that I was used to my VN which was closer to mint. The VH SL'E I drove home saying to myself SUCKERSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SUCKERRRRS because I got it for a very good price and it was much minter than expected :P
any one bought an engine off ebay? cause i might buy one and wanted to know what to look for (rooted motors) and yea some tips
please and thankyou, Pat
I have bought my last two cars off eBay. First a 1988 Golf GTI which I paid 200 pounds ($500)for.It just passed the MOT test (like a roadworthy) first time and I hardly spent any cash on it while I was driving it.
I bought the VN Berlina that I drive now off eBay for $1300. Very good body, but needed a little mechanical work for the roadworthy. Definitely good for the price.
I didn't get a chance to look at either car before buying it. It was just luck that they were OK IMO. I'd definitely recommend looking at a car off eBay before buying it if you can. Its worth remembering that you don't have to complete the deal on an eBay item that isn't as described.
Ideally I wouldn't buy an engine without seeing it running first, but thats just me.
yeah I almost bought a car, but it was in cairns, and I really wanted it, but with the cost of it plus the flight/accomodation/transportation of it, RWC etc etc just did not make it worth while... I reckon if you hand over anything greater than say $1500 you probably should look at it.... it was good of him, to send more pics and stuff, that made it even more apealing
15k for car
1300 for transport of car to my state
400 for flights
say 100 for accom/food
man it all adds up, and thats all before you change ownership. re-register
really it should only cost about 300. 200 for flights and then 100 for fuel, unless its aaggesss away
i bought a black 202 for $80 i think, was meant to be working and a whole vh v8 for $250 (buy it now), was really lucky with the v8 but it was full of rust (the car) so i couldnt use it
I've had no dramas with buying cars off Ebay, if the car isn't what has been represented in the ad you can walk away anyway
The only problem I've encountered was someone who didn't want to sell their car to me because of the low winning bid, I didn't bother pursuing it further with Ebay because the seller probably would have wrecked the car before I collected it off them if Ebay had of forced them to complete the transaction...
I am a big Ebay user and have sold two cars although haven't bought any (plenty of parts though). I have written heaps of details and included 6 photos. In both cases the buyer had a look before buying. I started the bidding at a price that I was happy with so everyone is a winner.![]()
I have bought 3 cars either from or that were advertised on ebay, my first one i bought without looking at it, it ended up selling it a couple of weeks later coz it was a piece of crap, kinda what i expected though
second one was my vk calais 3.8L, it was a good deal, and i checked it out before i bought it.
My VS i drive now was advertised on ebay, although i actually found it in the newspaper, then the guy said its on ebay. I paid about 5k for it with rwc and reg and it is going great.
