Default Looking at getting a Skyline.

Any you guys here had anything to do with them, I myself like Nissans. I know their trannys and engines are near bulletproof, but I'm not sure about the Skylines myself.

I am looking at a 4-door manual GT-4, either R33 or R34... Any opinions or advice?

How much money do you have to spend?
The R33 offers the following in a 4wd config:
    ENR33 GTS-4
    This is a 140kw N/A RD25DE.
    BCNR33 GT-R
    This is a 224kw RB26DETT.
    GT-R LM
Drivline wise the same as above.
    400R (NISMO produced)
Would have to be imported and would cost a small fortune. Uses a 2.8l RBX-GT2 making 294kw.

In the R34 all models are 4wd from memory. Power ranges from something like 100kw to 244kw. Sorry I cant tell ya more about the R34, dont know much about them.
Look at http://www.skylinesaustralia.com for more info.

Pez? It must be said though, it is far more practical, I have a pet hate for 2-doors, unless it is a 300ZX or something, if I have a choice, I go 4 door. But yeah... pez? in other words.. just shit?

One of the engineers has one.
Goes like a rocket. (His is GTR)
His mate has a GTS-t, both are basically equal in power and all.
The went for a "cruise" together. Both giving it a bit of hell. The GTS-t used HALF the amount of fuel.

there is an autech version up here in darwin that did a 12.54 in fairly standard form.

a mate's dad has one, and all they did was tweak the computer to unleash a heap of power.

Yeah, I'm looking at GT-4, basically, a poor man's GTR. Good thing is though, less power=more economy. I don't mind that, Skyline has a heap more cred than a stinky old VL anyway. Considering it is a N/A auto...... :\

4 door skylines look a lot better than the 2 door skylines, main reason is, every second street has a skyline sitting there...thats why the 4 doors r better

    cheers, Todd

The GT4's are a really nice car. Definitely my pick of the skyline bunch.

Unless you upgrade to turbo, the N/A GT4 is lacking in power and disappointing to drive.
The R32 with the Rb20 det is far livelier than a later N/A R33 or R34, and less power certainly doesn’t equal more economy. With 260rwkw I cruise at 9.5L per 100K’s.
Without an aftermarket ecu, you can’t “tweak the computer” to gain more power and only the R32’s can be re-chipped.
4-door Skylines only look dopey on stock wheels. With decent width rubber they’re tough as.
So unless you've got access to a workshop and lots of $$$, forget the GT4 and go for the GTSt in RWD.

I'm thinking of dropping an RB26DETT into it by the time I'm 21..... I would imagine replacing the motor and some other parts would cost less, and be less complex to do that attempting to fit an ATTESSA 4WD system and the transfer case and what-not...

The RB26 will basically drop straight in, but you will require an engineers certificate since the VL was never released with that engine.

RB26 in a VL will be nothing but a burnout machine. Very powerfull motor when modified. A conversion with more useable power would be an RB20 or RB25. You can still make it real quick and prob be cheaper to do as well.

    1) Because you can't put ATTESSA into the VL, secondly, no independant rear suspension. A little to archaic for my liking....

    2) My undertray/chassis in rusted to the shithouse, my car has a very limited life remaining... I'm just waiting for it to die, then I'll leave it down some dark alleyway in Balga with the keys in the ignition...

haha leave it in balga and just take out a whole pile of bits that are necessary to go, leave the keys in and watch em try and steal it. Probably pull it apart and
    carry it in bits
