Me and the old man put in some hours today to fix this scrape on my back door...

Here's the scrape... Came with the car as an optional extra.



Alot of body filler and sanding



And here it looks oh so shitty and I was starting to doubt whether or not I would finish it...



Now we got her all smoothed out and using some spray filler gear





We added the Masai Red and its still drying... Will take photos of it tommorow. It looks pretty good.

There's nothing quite like fixing it yourself. A hell of a lot cheaper too.

Oh yeah, so much cheaper. I got quoted like $200-400 at various places.

All up it cost about $80 to fix it myself.

Good to see the old backyard skills haven't died out...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using bog either...some people will wank on about how bad it is and how it should be done the "proper way" (ie: expensively), but as a famous car builder once said, as long as you are doing it for your own purposes and not just loading up a car with tons of bog to trick an unsuspecting buyer, who cares? It's perfectly OK.

On a motorbike you notice smells a lot more...and everytime I drive past each of the panelbeaters I pass on my way to work, I smell that familiar old aroma of "plastic panels" being used in great amounts....

The main secret I learned through harsh experience was not to use too much hardener...use a little less or exactly the right amount, and it makes it much smoother...also turn and fold the hardener through using smooth motions, or it will fill with air bubbles which will be a pain to get rid of later.

yea gotta love backyard panel beatin i had an incident with a courier it wouldve cost me a fortune to repair but did it with my grandpa and brother(who is a spraypainter) and the car was fine till some idiot slammed there brakes on it da wet and the car was written off

Yeah mate, it came up good. Just gotta take this paint back and bit and hit it with some more clear, as you can see its very dull.




All I need now is those plastic/chrome strips replaced all round.

Congrats.. That really has turned out well.. But yeah, with a light rub, and cut and polish it would come up even better...

That's sweet, but when you mask off an area to paint, you know you get those lines or the new paint is thicker, is it just a matter of sanding back the thicker paint to blend in with the original paint.

Yeah, just with wet and dry 1200....

Just don't go to deep I found.
