Help Needed.

Hey all, I'm having trouble starting my vn commy. She cranks maybe half a second and then backfires, sorta dead battery like. Battery is okay though and i've have had it on charge - starter motor is fine. I thought it was the coil pack playing up but i've replaced it and its still gives me the same problem I now believe its the ECU and was wondering if a VR V6 ECU will work in my VN V6? I'll rip my mums VR ECU out of her car and chuck it in mine just to see if she kicks over but I dont want to fry her ECU. I just want to diagnose the problem at this stage so if anyone can let me know if I can use her ECU in my car without any damage it would be much appreciated.

i'm no electrician, but i would think that the differences in the engine control unit in a car from 1989 and a car from 1996 would be CONSIDERABLE. But, as i said, i'm no expert.
