Default Supercharged Alloytec On The Way

In the latest Wheels magazine it states that Denny Mooney has confirmed Holden is working on a Supercharged variant of the Alloytec engine.

A turbo Alloytec has been ruled out as there is simply not enough room under the bonnet and a few other reasons.

General Motors is looking at the development and if they dont go ahead with it or dont have the time, Holden will do the development itself, looking to make it into some commodores by 2008 to combat the XR6 Turbo.

Combined with Direct Injection, this could make quite a potent V6!!!

I dunno if i could handle a turbo either. Then again I dont know much. I hope the blown VE gives the XR6T a run for its money

In my opinion, GM are very proud of their V8's, thus they will always try and retain a performance margin between the 6 and the 8. You have to think, what is the general consensus on the ford V8 compared to the turbo 6? kind of makes the V8 look weak. Holden wont want to do that....i think.

The Ford V8 IS weak though...

The new SS-V blows the FPV GT away... let alone bringing HSV into the equation.

as i always said.... "there's no substitute for cubes "..... Fords engine is bigger .... i seen in a magazine about Cappa super-chargers for different engines... Holdens and Fords.... they really give the Fords some power..

I guess you could say that about Holden V8's.

It is going to be very hard for holden to take on the xr6t with a blown hfv6 and do well, considering how well its done and that xr6t has been the "darling" of the Aust motoring press for the last 4 years so the v6 has its back to the wall before its even given a go imo! I hope they do it and make a good fist of it though

as long as it give more then 20kw over the sv6 because the old v6 had 152kw and the supercharged had 171kw, which is hardly worth the extra insurance.

If it can give the engine more low down torque, and keep that torque curve linear it might actually give the I6T a run.

I think Holden also likes to keep its V8 well and truly the top notch car as well though... It wouldnt let the V6 threaten it.

Where as with Ford, the XR6T is now a better car than the XR8, the F6 Typhoon better than the GT. Driveability etc. being the key points.
