    Question VK/VL V8 Diff

How much would you consider to be a reasonable price to pay for a secondhand V8 diff assembly, 3.45 centre, complete disc to disc

What diff are you talking about mate? The VK V8's had the Salisbury diff, the VL V8's had the Borg Warner BW78 diff.

Presuming this is a VL Borg Warner diff...

The VL V8's had a 3.08 ratio, not a 3.45 ratio. $100 depending on condition of discs and pads. These diffs are nothing special.

VK Salsbury diff didnt have a 3.45 ratio either. There was no 3.45 ratio even available for the Salsbury diffs.... Also a 3.08 ratio.... Not worth much...

Right Not all VK V8 Large Salisbury diffs are 3.08 ratio, in fact all auto VK V8 Calais use a 2.60 ratio. They maybe cheap where you are 1991_Vn2nV but these are hard to get now days and do cost a fair bit.
Same as the VL V8 diff, they feature a 4 pinion LSD centre standard, so they are a copy of a VLT LSD Diff, only 3.08 ratio. Often these go for the same price as a VLT diff, over $1000 at times.

the vl turbo diff is 3.45 but generally about $1200. i won a vl v8 rear end with disc brakes for $255. its a 3.08 ratio but i'm just going to put a falcon diff centre in, the XF auto had a 3.7 ratio from what i've been told, they're a straight bolt up.

Hmmmm. Are you sure about that? I have a VK V8 Calais and I am sure mine is a 3.08 ratio Salisbury.

They were not LSD standard on the VL. It was an option. Also its no different to a stock VN V6 diff.

I bought a VN Calais 5L diff with LSD for $100. Wouldnt pay more than that for a non-LSD VL V8 diff that is exactly the same but without LSD.

Also it was the VH (5.0L SL/E) that had the 2.60 diff gears, not the VK.

like people have said above, 3:45 are not a common ration for the V8 vk or vl. VL turbo/NA sixes yes but not V8's. My old VL V8 had an auto and a 3:08 ratio and was non LSD, my vk also has a 3:08 ratio but is manual and is LSD as its an SS. Im over in WA but good cond diffs over here can go for anywhere from a couple of hundred up to $1000 or so depends what it is and cond of course. i just had mine in the SS rebuilt with a new 3:08 crown wheel and pinion for $1400 so any diff you pick up make sure you check it thoroughly!!
