On that note, there's a rather large number of cars I give defect notices out to because of the ride height and when questioned about where they got it done their response is "I got it done at [local suspension shop]".
Of course I never follow up on any of the crap they tell me, that's their problem. Is there actually any truth to these stories you reckon? Anyone else had a mod done to their car that they've later been defected or even prosecuted for? And I'm not talking about your trivial ones, just stick to simple ones. I don't want to start a heap of posts with the "I got wrongfully defected because the coppa isn't a mechanic and couldn't tell a thingybob from a whatchamacallit" angle.

the issue with that is i once got defected by a cop because he didn't beleive my car was a factory fitted V8 which it was. now who is wrong there, he also almost arrested me because he didn't believe me when he was wrong and i tried to argu the case. defecting a car because it has obviuos flaws with the mods done is one thing but defecting a car becasue you "think" it wasn't done properly is a completly different proposition. generally it costs money to provide evidence that the mod was legal, money that costs the owner and not the copper that gave the defect. i really beleive that if cops defect cars and are found to be in the wrong that they should then re-imburse the NON guilty party.
i also know a guy whos car was defected for a lowered ride height when it was factory standard, even the wheels where standard. go figure that one.
there are plenty of cops around who have absolutly NO knowledge of the car scene but just hide behind the badge and hand out defects when they feel like it because they don't like the look of the driver

What is really interesting is lowering your vehicle requires an approval certificate.
This means that anyone without this certificate and have had their car lowered from standard, your insurance is null and void and your car is unroadworthy!!!

there can't be many commodores out there then that are legal with superlows fitted all around. i know with mine the exhaust is lower then 100mm. then again, as i know it here in NZ no STRUCTURAL part of the car can be lower then 100mm, since the zorst isn't structural it doens't count. i can also get Low Volume vehicle certification that checks all my mods and certifies then as being legal, then if a copper pulls me over all i gotta do is show him that and i should be fine

Hi everyone, Here is a question for the SA coppers or someone else who knows.
I was just wondering what the laws are in SA in regards to having Nitrous Oxide fitted to the car. It doesn't get used on the street but on occasions after tuning or a dyno day the bottle is still in the car while I drive it home. Usually I disconnect the bottle and put it in the back seat. I was just wondering if it is possible to leave the bottle in the boot but just disconnected for the drive home?
Thanks
Brad

ive got a quick question for ya, i was told by a couple people the other day that vic roads have scrapped the 100mm ride height law because of the new VE's apparently being too low from the factory. Apparently they now mesure it from the center of your wheel to the top of the wheel arch. Is this true??
Cheers Scott

No, they are both separate clearance requirements... And still required to be met. It is far easier to do the axle to guard measurement, so its probably simply a case of being lazy rather than anything changing. While the two measurements relate in a round-about way, they are there to identify completely different issues with the vehicle's setup
Our VE SS at work has quite a lot of gear in it (i.e. it sits lower than stock) and is still well over the 100 mm, so I'm not sure how they don't make the cut off the production line! Anyway, there are many many cars out there, that do roll out the showroom floor in breach of the regulations especially when they start throwing on the extras.

Pfft, VE's come out of the factory with the ride height of a 4WD, so I think someone is pulling your leg.

i was going to say ve's arent anywhere near the minimum ride height from factory, but because of the electronic suspension **** on the hsv's they can only be lowered to one height, our dealership lower's alot on delivery but many customers have been defected just the same as the rest of us, personally id only lowere the back if i owned a ve, i cant stand how the front leans down, our ssv delivery ute is slammed at the front and the back is still high as looks so ****
and the rule isnt just ride height of 100mm theres also rules about not being lower than 2/3 of the original clearence to the bump stop (or something similar i dunno the proper specs) and minimum clearence from the hub to the guard and ****.. i was reading the book at tafe

when they pull you over raise it back up
Now Mr Police officer sir.
Is it legal to have red and blue lights on your car that are clear when turned off. i believe that its legal to have them as long as they arent turned on while on a public road.
is this correct?

You would cop a warning placed on your car that may imitate police etc.
Why would you want them anyways?
