    Default Dyno What is it??

    hey guys been seeing alot of dyno readings of car, i know it tells you how many kw your car has . . but thats about!

    just wanted to know what else it reads, and how is it preformed!
    do ya just chuck ya car on the thing and rev the guts outta it or what??

    actually it tells you how much hp your car has, not kw....thats worked out off the hp figure. there are two main types of dynoes, a chassis dyno which is where you have your whole car on there and the power figures are shown from at the wheels.
    then there's the engine dyno where you just have the engine without the rest of the car, the figures from this are at the engine.
    i wont pretend i know everything about dynoes, but the basic figures you can get from them are, hp, torque and air to fuel ratio.

    It also reads a whole pile of other things (well actually your car reads them and a tuner gets them up on a screen) and a tuner can set stuff like your A/F ratios, injector widht, all sorts of stuff to best suit your car.

    You can also simulate all driving conditions on a dyno. The operator can load the rollers to a certain resistance to simulate those driving conditions. Great for tuning and finding faults.

    for example a high resistance might simulate uphill driving or towing a load the point is to analyse in detail how the power output varies under different conditions so that you can adjust the computer (timing, injector pulse width and many other things) to improve power output.
