Neon Light Usage????

Hey guys,

How long are footwell neons meant to be left on for as a maximum?? Is it about 2 hours or something?? I read it somewhere, i just forgot, and now im confused And a line locker is a 1 min max usage isnt it??

i had my footwell neons & washers jets on, in my old car. all the way from melbourne to sydney, which was almost 10 hours, & i never had a problem

are we talking left on for the purposes of not having your battery die or left on for the purposes of not having the neons break? There's been several people on this forum who have accidently left them on overnight, came back to the car the next morning and it's started with no problems (and neons weren't broken for that matter). Most neons/CCFL's don't draw very much power.

Im getting sick of this shit.. Neons are legal in Melbourne.. How do I know? I had them fitted on my Commo for a while (yeah yeah)..

I had a mechanic refuse to give me an RWC until I got confirmation from Vicroads and Victoria Police that neons were fully legal on a street car, both said yes.

I've talked to highway patrol and been through booze buses with my neons on and only one cop gave me a bit of hassle. But as soon as he confirmed the law for himself, I was on my ways, blue undercar neons switched on..

The rule is that the source of the globe is not allowed to be seen and the light or glow cannot dazzle other drivers.

The only time I got in shit for my neons was when one of my mounts broke and the neon globe was hanging loose and the globe was visible to oncoming cars. I got pulled over by the boys in blue and just given a friendly warning to fix up the mount..

Believe me, neons in Victoria are legal on a moving street car. No question..

They are only legal if you follow all ADR standards and local law standards. Your best bet is for professional installs of the right colors, certain colors cant be seen from certain areas, they must not be glaring or obtrusive to other road users etc etc.

ANY COLOR..... Legal
Pulsing glow...... illegal
Constand GLow.....legal
Neon Tube Visible......ILLEGAL!! Get them fitted properly if u don;t know how!
Only Glow visible..... Legal

And people saying that they give cops reason to pay more attention to you...
Don't break the rules and they can pay you all the attention in the world...

Why can't more people be like this? Who gives a f*ck if the car attracts attention from the fuzz, that just means it gets attention from everybody..

I've got a car which gets heaps of attention from boys in blue and everyone else.

I couldn't care less when I get pulled over and I've been through plenty of booze buses with my car and driven alongside cops a lot. I've had cops check out my car and even yell the license plate out of a cop car..

Nah thats correct...
Indicaters have to be yellow all round, no buts ifs or nuffin!
Markers cannot be emergency colors (Blue, Orange, Red)
Red and orange for really good reason actually....
You can't have red n orange facing forward as these look like brake lights.
Thats what vicroads told me last time anyway...
So i got Green!!

Its not a case of ur car attracting attention to your driving, but your driving attracting attention to ur car....

Im pretty sure that didn't make to much sense...

As i said before, if you stick to the rules for your sack and EVERYONE elses then you won't have any issues....
If you drive like a knob i don't care if your driving a 500rwkw dumped, intercooled clubby on 22 inch rims or if your drivin your 30yo datsun...your gonna get pulled up more times that a done up christmas tree of a car thats sticking to the road rules...
