i have just had my car on the dyno yesterday.
1987 VL series 2 SL with calais bits here and there
i have the car running a bit rich, the afm giving out 2.15v
an xf throttle body with vn air ducting shortened and a vn air box lid with the standard vl bottom with standard air inlet.
extractors amd 2.5" straight through with lucky muffler.
water pump, fan, power steering pump all connecter. no air con.
5 speed manual gearbox, i just replaced all bearings appart from needle roller.
LSD disc break diff.
17x7.5" 235 on rear at 50psi
dyno run was done in 2nd gear
was about 21 degreese with fan in front of car
i made sure everything was showing good signs, only code i was getting was the starter circuit.
so how much do you think i got on the dyno???
700th post!

my web sitestuff on the XF throttle body conversion, calais interior and lots of other junk!
ill say what i get after a fer votes go up, i wanna get a few guesses, and i need to wait till tomorrow, hopefully the other computer will be working and i can scan the print out and post it up.

You have 95 - 100 up there twice
but that was my guess, but i have no idea, so it a rather random pick....

Tomorrow doesn't look good either.

so i do... lol
ill post the print out tomorrow night.
i want to get some figures and convert the kmph reading to rpm. the location of power range will probably supprise some people
what are the calculations to convert kmph to rpm
final drive is 3.45:1
2nd gear is 1.90:1
?

I voted 80 kw just for adding the extra weight of the Calais bits.
Nah, probably about 110 would be my guess.
Stuff the dyno, what you get on the quarter?
Im with vztrt,
Dyno figures mean jack, take ya ride to the quarter and run her and tell us what ya get.
Only reason I reckon dynos are crap, is that figures can vary by 30 % or more depending on how the guy is using it. Change the correction factor and hp can gain 15%.
yeah some people put the air temp sensor near the exhaust trickgin it in thinkign the air intake is really hot and gives you a boosted result.
i'm only on my L's so im not gonna take it to the track yet.
a rough guess would be a mid 14 second pass.
any idead on the calculations from kmph to RPM?

well stock auto vl is said to be 81rwkw or soo and manual 88rwkw so im guessing
112rwkw is my guess, come on tell us what u got![]()

yeah you out it on a high tyre pressure so there is less drag on the tyre, less pressure if your making high kw.
i got 104.5rwkw
i was very pleased with that result, and the fuel ratio flattened off where it should and was at a good ratio for max power. i want to see what power i get when i get a proper hi-flo cat
a standard vr auto with a pod filter got 106.5rwkw
standard toyota soarer twin turbo cooled got 150rwkw which is said to be 206kw at the flywheel from factory.

104.5rwkw is good man... about 10 more than I expected from it.

No its not. Yes you may break slight traction (with a more powerful car) with a higher tyre pressure, but the tyre pressure being higher means less surface area on the tyres and less friction.
You will get a better result with more tyre pressure with a less powerful car.
Obviously a 300 rwkw car will have more tendency to break traction with more tyre pressure.
Not a true Hp figure. If dynoed in second gear it will read a higher power figure.
A more true result will be when the gearbox and engine is running at 1:1 ratio. Third gear is the nearest you will get to that in auto and 4th gear in manual.
A chassis dyno is never true anyway. Only an engine dyno is. A chassis dyno is really just a comparitor for tuning and competition.

Its all about physics, quite logical really... Like i said, you would not increase tyre pressure for a powerful car on chassis dyno as you will get wheelspin. A more sedate car will get a better result with more pressure.
