how black is normal

hey everyone

just did a service on my car today just oil and filter and noticed that the oil was very very black and i had only done a service 5000km ago.

im using penrite hpr 10 so i would have thought that it would still be a little bit clearer than what it was.

is this normal? does it indicate excessivly harsh engine conditions?

i would say running rich on fuel would make the oil very black .... you could try an engine compression test to test any leakage past the compression rings ... this can also make the oil go black...
