Got a mate convinced that a blower and a supercharger are not the same thing, that theres a difference between the two and how they work. Never heard of it myself, anyone else heard of that?

Ha ha, some people crack me up![]()
lol so he needs a lesson in forced induction, thought so.
Cheers, Gaz
Its just an americianisim, a slang term for supercharger.
On another note, I believe this thing has a bit of an identity crisis.

Maybe he's not completely wrong. While the two terms get used interchangeably, it could be argued that 'blower' refers specifically to an air pump, like a Roote's type - eg. Eaton, Toyota - where compression occurs externally due to air being pushed into a volume faster than it would naturally flow out, while 'supercharger' might refer to both that and types where compression occurs internally - eg. centrifugal, Sprintex.

Hehe I know theres not difference, and this is a bit silly but funnily for me I associate the word supercharged with v6, but when I hear the word blown I think of a big v8 blown v6 just doesn't sound right![]()
there is a difference between blown and supercharged
just ask hozy![]()
We got rep back, yaaay!
does that mean there's a difference between boosted and turbocharged? lol....
Basically "BLOWN" Refers to the Exhaust being "blown" from the Combustion Chamber and "SUPERCHARGED" REfers to the "super charging of Air" in the Combustion Chamber.
"BLOWN" Refers to the early 671 Detroit 2Stroke Diesel Engines which required extra Airflow to "push" the spent exhaust gases from the Combustion Chamber with the Intake Air.Due to the design of the Engine the normal "scavenge" of exhaust gas was`nt possible(think 2stroke lawnmower).I think it because of the fact GM671 Engines have Sumps with Oil(see YouTube - How Two-stroke Engines Work) and Lawnmowers dont the nesessitated sum form of Mechainical Air Circulation.
"SUPERCHARGED"Refers to a point in the 4Stoke Cycle when both the Intake and Exaust Valves are closed(just before the Ignition Stroke)(See YouTube - How Engines Work)The Intake Air at this point can start being Compressed.
