well my girlfriend was having a problem with her r31 style pintara, i fixed the problem but why in the engine bay i was gob smacked from something i saw,
she had told me before that the engine had been replaced with a motor from a blue bird of some sort but she didnt know what 1.
what got me was this motor which is a 4 cylinder has 8 spark plugs and two coil packs..... what is with this???
just wanting to know if anyone has any info on this motor as it has got me queruse about it and to why it has 8 plugs when 4s only needed.
hear is some pictures below of it,

I know the next model Pintara (FWD) has that engine with the 8 plugs. The twin plugs per cylinder would help combustion, my understanding is it would create two flame fronts making combustion happen faster/more efficiently.
Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!
Some Mercedes Benz 6 cylinders also do this with 12 Plugs, it is to help create a better burn like said, and I have a feeling the sparks are timed to go slightly one after the other somehow. I'm not too sure of benefits in performance or economy or any of that, but it'd want to be worth it, especially when it comes to replacing plugs and leads.
Welcome to the wonderful world of the CA20
yah i thought about double spark beta combustion, but would it effect anything in the combustion force producing more power or most likly just to make sure it burns the full amount of fuel
CA20 hey,
think ive heard of it though my mate, who owns a bluebird trx, he dumped it and got a gazel turbo motor in it now 113rwkw on 4 psi.
are these CA20 motors any good or better then the stock motors that came in the pintaras,
she said it was easyer to source a bluebird motor CA20 then get the orignal.

Eight plug motors were fitted to all RWD Pintaras (2.0) and some late model RWD Bluebirds (2.0). Also seen on FWD Bluebirds (2.4), Nomad People Mover (2.4) and possibly the Navara.
In the pics it just looks like the standard Pintara motor perhaps from an 85 Bluebird

you will find that each set of plugs have different heat ranges, ones for the intake side, the others for the exhaust side. as said it for effeciency reasons. I think that one set turn off at a certain rpm but dont quote me on that.
In short, CA20's are crap.
I would class them along side a starfire 4.
Just been speaking with the old man, addtion to my first post, the intake runs 10 degrees timing and the exhaust runs 6 degrees timing. they exhaust plugs switch off @4000 rpm. Its is all done as anti pollution plus if the exhaust plugs run after 4000 the motor will get too hot. there you's go![]()
