Default simple thing causing a huge problem

    hey all

Just a note incase this happens to anyone

Driving home from a job, my VT V6 starts literally dying doing 60 k's. No accelleration, dash lights up, no steer and no brakes ( well, no power assist). Acting like a CAS, in that she would start, drive for a few minutes, then die and wouldnt start for a few minutes. Just out of nowhere with no warning this happened.

My fuel filter was only 20 000 k's old, but changing it solved the problem, and she uses even less fuel than she did before. Needless to say I was shitting myself for a while thinking was due for a CAS or fuel pump..

    cheers

Agreed... The first thing I do when I buy a car is change all the filters.

The interesting thing is that the filter is only 20 000 k's old, half the service life expected, and its fouled to the point that it is restricting fuel flow enough to stall at idle..

more likely its from running the fuel tank low, thats the worst possible thing you can do for your fuel pump and filter as it stirs up and sucks in all the sediment at the bottom of the tank.
my appologies to bradcad if this isnt the case, but its usually how fuel filters live a short life.

there you go, mystery solved, lol. a good tip is to never let the fuel level get below 1/4, your fuel system and filter will last longer.
