Blending paint
g'day,
need a bit of help. Im going to be painting my front bar, Its going to be solid blue, and im going to do the insert with a metal flake (the type you mix into the clear).
Now my problem is im not clear coating (cause its a solid colour) and i dont know how to blend the flake with the solid, There isnt a very clear edge.
otherwise there would be a lip between the two.
hope this makes some sense.

but wouldnt that creat a lip where the tape is pealed off?

bit of light sanding after its dry and another coat of clear to seal it
unless you want to free hand it. as hakhawk said use the finest grit you can find give it a sand maybe. im a cabinet maker not a panel beater sorry
free handing? I dont think i explained it properly.the blue line is there to show that i was going to do the inside metallic.
i guess my main problem is will their be a difference where the blue has been clear coated and where is hasnt?
Yep, light sand and a coat of clear will fix it ...

Just spray the whole bar with clear once you've done the flake,just because the blue is a solid colour doesn't mean you cant clear coat it.You'll end up with a far better looking job too,the clear gives the solid colour more depth and IMO gives a far better gloss & shine
I respray musical instruments and have tried polishing the plain solid colours (when I first started out) and they just didn't have the depth and gloss that a clear coated instrument has.Well worth the extra effort.
