Red face getting RW test on monday, a few things needed...

i have just booked my car in for a roadworthy test on monday (9th November) and at the moment she wont start and doesnt have a master cylinder but there's no doubt i can get her burning fuel by Monday.

my diagnosis is it needs a new battery, i came to this conclusion by...
last few days its been playing up, i think i left the ignition on the other night and the battery went flat, charged it up and it started but i forgot to put the brake booster vacuum hose back on so it quickly died then i put the hose back on and it wouldn't crank
crank...............crank...........crank......... really slowly, nothing, but 2 minutes earlier it was cranking like there was no tomorrow, i have had the starter motor out took it all apart, solenoid was fine, bushes fine, everything good, and it spins perfectly when i run it off the motor. just to make sure i put in my old starter motor which i replaced because it made a screaming noise, cranked fine, and the same thing, slow cranking.

so my question is, what brand of battery should i get, CCa and good place to get one?
i run a stereo, an amp and 1 sub

also, anyone got some crazy battery stories?
like acid leaking or anything like that...

Thanks Stewart

well vl's use a P460D from factory i think, should be a big enough size to run a sub and an amp for a half hour or so at a reasonable volume.
they are about $80 for an exide battery form repco or autobarn. they arent too much and come with a 2 year warranty

thanks for the replies guys
yeah i think ill go along the lines of a 500cca.

i have been charging out spare battery all afternoon since about 5 and it was already 3/4 full and the car is cranking fairly fast, but not sparking, i took no1 spark plug out and cranked it, this time it went really slow because i have been trying for a while, really slow. No spark at all, i came to the conclusion that it was just because the starter was draining all the power and not enough was getting to the coil... anyone got an opinion on that

battery story, my dads 2000 hilux spits acid out the vents in the plugs in the top, it has stripped a little bit of paint off the bonnett and a little bit of rust and damaged a fair bit of paint around the engine bay
