Default Changing to 3.73:1 Good Move.

Well with all the talk about diff ratio’s it started to get confusing for me so I though well I will go half way and got 3.73:1’s fitted.

I have an auto VY2 SS with a few goodies and it has had a VCM Mat tune. 228rwkw.

How did it work well I am very happy with the out come.

    • Highway speed well at 100kmph the RPM sits on 2200rpm.
    • Fuel economy I was getting around the 10.5ltr per 100klm, there has been none to very little change in that except on windy days if I hit a strong head wind its better than it use to be on fuel.
    • The BIG change has been the drivability it’s just not the came car, around town its very responsive and I have found its using less fuel. Highway use well once again it’s more responsive, when passing a car its just so nippy now less throttle and more zip.
    • Wheel spin well it does get a fraction more but its controllable, I have found it I don’t get it a big foot full its very quick of the mark.

I keep putting the changing the diff ratio because of the cost I didn’t think that spending $1,500 on just gears wasn’t a worth wile mod, god was I so wrong would recommend that the first mod be gears now before anything its such a big improver.

Next modification is a Stall converter Yank SS-2,800 hopefully, unless I take the big step and change over to manual 6 speed (still tossing the coin on this)

Anyway this is my bit on the changing of gear ratios “JUST DO IT” you won’t regret it.
In the beginning God took 5 day to create Holden, on the 6th day he created HSV and the 7th day he refined his work to create the R8 Clubsport.

Thanks for the info, i'm looking to do the same to my vs, do you know what the ratio was before hand, i'ld be assuming 3.08, and/or what rpms you were doing beforehand at 100.
