Back when i was silly and 15, i didnt even know what a HK monaro was, but i always looked at the family VR commodore and thought... why dont they bring out a 2 door commodore... that would be really cool.
Now i currently have this facination with TE gemini's, they are tiny, rear wheel drive and they weigh fhark all.
But they is just somthing about the look of a TE gem, it just makes you want to shout out "FULLY SIK" for no reason. I guess its a personal thing, some people think they look crap.
I really wish holden would bring out another tiny rear wheel drive 4 door car. They could even leave the gear stick in that silly place for nostalga!
But how to capture the esance of the "look" of the gem in a contempory style???. Holden got it right with the monaro, surly they could do it again with the gem
You know that essentially they'd turn it into a compact trashbox - Which is basically what it was back then- Damn good fun little cars though, but with todays standards you'd lose the lightness of the car.. Look at the Torana for example, bit of a cult back then, now they've turned it into a bit of a Ricey Tofu Burger with Led's all over it.. I think they've tried to hard to make something out of what it was.
Anyway, if Holden were to bring back a car of my choice, I'd have to say the VL.
If they were to bring back another light (for what it was) Roughly the same shape, Far more advanced, yet still bulletproof, Turbocharged Straight 6, Something Similar to the xr6t engine, with a braggable engine and suitable turbo, combined with a state of the art suspension/ braking package.. And an up to date interior, I would be into it straight away.
And sorry guys but if the xr6t engine could go into a VL, I'd do it if the price was reasonable.
I'd say they need to bring back the LWB one tonner. We have a LWB WB One Tonner, and Dad reckons he'll never give it up because of how handy the extra space is. And it wouldn't be all that expensive to design, either. All they'd really need to do would be to get the one tonner cab, and chuck it on a Statesman wheelbase, and put a tray on the back.
A V8 torana.....
RWD in the smaller cars.
A one-tonner crewman with a proper back seat....
A real panelvan, not just a canopy......
And the sedan/delivery station wagon (as in the FB/EK series) - the one with only 2 doors & a glassed in rear with rear seats that can fold flat - like a gemini wagon was too - imagine a 2 door commdoore wagon!
A convertable VN *drool* :P
Thats all right, thats ok, I drive a commodore anyway!!!!
nah, got it wrong guy's, a kingswood, i loved the kinngy's, or even a sandman, not the new shape, i wanna see the old shape, none of this new shape shit
i am the god of britany spears womanizer on just dance on the wii
Bring back an inline 6 turbo??? You mean run to nissan and borrow again?Originally Posted by bextor84

Unless you want holden to recreate some sort of contempory 202. (shudders)
I dunno if you guys have seen this, but check it out anyway... it's the "new Torana"

OK... well i dunno about you guys but i think it looks like absolute shit, it looks like an Astra on drugs
I wish Holden would just bring out their old cars with the exact same body shape and pimped up interior and better engine etc.
Toranas (and most other 70s muscle cars) were HOT, but I think they just killed it here![]()
(PS I wish Chrysler would remake Val. CHARGERS... #### yesss)

Say No To Ricers
Not a bad car the new Torana...twin turbo V6 and other fruit.
The dash I notice has a styling cue from the old GTR's...three raised circular gauge areas.
At least it's rear-wheel drive.![]()
Yeah, I too have a soft spot for the old TD and TE Gemini's.
But they MUST bring back a proper Panel Van...
To digress onto older shape cars, as mentioned with the Kingswood above...
Modern cars are supposedly much safer...they crumple, and are suposedly far more efficient.
OK, now, aerodynamics are claimed as being a major part of fuel efficiency.
CRAP. I have seen scientific studies that show aerodynamics don't actually begin to work until around 160kph in your favor.
Coefficients of drag haven't changed all that much over the years either...modern cars might be "sleeker" looking, but have huge front air-damn bumpers and aprons.
Two examples of "new-tech" in old cars I personally know of...I've read of many many others, but these are two I've spent time with.
First: An EH Sedan fitted with an Ecotec V6 and 4-speed auto. It was lowered, 14" Dragway mags, looked very traditional...until you popped the hood! It wasn't modified apart from a K&N air filter. Now, that boxy old car fairly flew along, being much lighter than the VS sedan that the Ecotec was sourced from, and it was returning something like 35+ miles per gallon on the highway...about what you'd expect from a VS Commodore. It also had air-con and was very comfy on the highway.
Second: A *choke* XC Falcon coupe, fitted with the single-overhead cam 4 liter Ford motor out of a '97 Falcon (before the current twin-cam type). It too had a four speed auto, and was actually lighter than the newer Falcon, meaning good performance again. It had a new airbox, headers, and a chip, and went really well, also returning excellant economy, even though an XC has the aerodynamics of a barn door...![]()
Look at new car weights...a new Falcon for example weighs over 1800kg...my old XC-Update Fairmont GXL with all the fruit that we used to own weighed only about 1500kg, and it had more steel in the bonnet than a new Falcon has in the whole body...
VN Commodores are supposedly a good light-weight car....I wonder how much a VZ weighs...I seem to recall my VC Commodore weighing only 1410kg or something?
I wonder if the "more power, more power!" mantra being pushed is to cover up the fact that newer cars are being loaded down with so much electronics and other crap that they weigth more and more each year, and if engines stayed the same horsepower, they'd just get slower every year....
Geminis and Panelvans for sure. Love to see a HSV panelvan, 5.7L or turbo V6, 6 speed manual, leather interior and some decent 17in. mags. A subtle bonnet scoop would go well too. Well you can dream anyway..
Twin turbo alloytech V6 = 280kW
*drooooollls*
Could this be the donk that kills the XR6T in the VZ2 or VE?????

Believe it or not, the lightest commodore of all is the VK SL - it's in the low 1200kg region, and fractionally lighter than VB & VC base models.
An alloytec 190 in one of those would easily do 14s or lower, and have the economy of a bloody corolla!!
I am with Garth - bring back the sandman panel van - old shape. The new panel van is awful, when I bought my VT last year the dealership had one on the lot and were filming the ads for it.
My brother has a sandman and is doing it up, currently at the point of respraying and deciding what colour.
There used to be some wicked customised vans around, it would be great to see that fad back.
i must say i don't reckon re producing the monaro was the best idea as nice as they are i don't think the name monaro gets me excited anymore.
aren't they re-producing the toranna again, wouldn't surprise me mitsubishi have re-produced the colt anyone seen the ads??
cheers
scott
I don't stay with my my wife for love, spite really, i won't leave her cause that'll make her happy!!
Yeah saw the Colt ad, small car that feels big or whatever they are portraying it as.
Bring back the Scruffy Scurvy Scurry or whatever it's called.. How the hell does that thing look like anyway?
yeah i say go the gemini
i brought TG a while ago for the
girlfriend as a project for me
it's slowly getting there
1994 VR Commodore - 5Spd Manual, Lowered, CAI, 2 1/2 Cat Back and a few visual mods.
The One Tonner sits on exactly the same wheelbase as the Ute & Wagon... which is exactly the same as the Statesman. A new factory option with the VZ though, is a Cab Chassis Crewman... ON ANY MODEL. Pick yourself up a brochure if you don't believe me.Originally Posted by goVZ

bextor84: I have seen the new Colt and I DO NOT like it. It's too small for my tastes and it's only available with a boring-as-bulldust CVT tranny.
i want holden to bring out a 4wd none of this crewman crap.
one with a v8 and 255kw
Im addictied to the VN Group A.. i would love to see the a 2004 old shape VN or VR come off the line as a special anniversery series.. of course you would have to lay the new 6.0L Gen 4 LS2 under the hood just for kicks. but.. i dont know i like the old style loooonnggggish looks the VN Group A has. Polish this off with reworked interior.. but stuff all this new space-age design and curves... GM needs to look back into the history and bring back all those memories for the old holden lover's. (hell im 17 and like i said.. im addicted to the looks of the VN and VR (specially the VN Group A looks and feel)
The only problem with that is that the build of the car may not be able to handle the weight, stress and power the Gen 4 can dish out. Nothing wrong with dreaming about it though!
Back in the hope things have settled down...
If only i was any good at 3d modling software i would so give it ago.yeah i say go the gemini
There is just somthing amazing about TE gem, words cant describe, its just so (sorry if i offend) wog cool, but in the good way.
For those who havent had the pleasure of being in one, it is very narrow, back seat is really only for 2.2 people.
No power steering, no air conditioning, no abs. A real drivers car.
Imagine a tiny rear wheel car, which encapsulates the cool wogness of 1983, with an alloytech v6, rear wheel drive, and a gear stick which comes out of the center console for whatever reason.
My ex girlfriend had a gem, it was her old mans baby, he kept it in such immaculate condition, it was awesome.
Nah, there are plenty of them round kicking out similar power if not more with the aid of big f*** off blowers and suchOriginally Posted by fourstar82

Its a Commodore, no amount of torque or power could kill it... within reason

CRAP! I'd be interested to see which "scientific" studies they are. I regularly tow a trailer interstate. The all up weight is about 450kg and no doubt would play a part on fuel economy. What I do find however is how the trailer is packed has a huge effect on economy. Even the windage caused by the mast sitting an extra 500mm above the roof of the car can have 1.5l/100km difference in fuel usage. This is all travelling at speeds of approx 100km/h (anything much more than 110 & fuel economy gets rediculous)
Surely common sence tells you that a better CD has to improve economy.

I agree with reaper. Drive round with your bonnet clicked up, or your boot open, or a set of roof racks on. Hell, drive round with a window open. You'll notice the difference.
Your right in the sence that the faster you go the more they matter, because of the fact that if you double your speed, you quadrouple your drag.
Aerodynamics/Drag matter no matter what speed your doing. I should know...![]()
