Hey all, As most might know my Car within next 6 months should be running 10psi...
Curious, What does everyone think Insurance prices might be & who would touch me...
Extractors
Twin Catback Exhaust
Window Tint
Sports Steeringwheel
Mag Wheels(Wider Than Legal For VN)
Lowered
Supercharger
Intercooler
Bigger Brakes
So far few companies I've spoken to tell me I have no hope getting insured being 18 with these mods...
Cheers

What about Shannons?
just car or shannons would be the best. except shannons is a bit more expensive

just cars will most likely insure you happily - so long as all your modifications are 'legal and roadworthy'..
the problem arrises if you happen to be unlucky enough to hit a rolls royce or something, and they need to find their way out of paying a $400,000 damage bill......
then the insurance company will send an assessor out to look at your car, and they'll go
- "where's the engineers certificate for this supercharged powerful motor to prove it's legal?"
.... then they don't pay out
this is really unavoidable, however - unless you get your car engineer certified, along with passing all the emissions tests etc that come with the engineers, blah blah....
but yeah I would expect a couple of hundred bucks a year through just cars for 3rd party fire/theft.
Just got off the phone with just car.
My VX SS just cost me $2900 to insure and its fairly stock.
Including
Set of 18's
Factory Leather
Lowered slightly
Im 21 and have a good driving record. Sadly its a part of owning a nice or fast car.
Worth it tho.
Just car and Budget direct would be best bet.
Mine... Completely stock... Is costin $2300. and thats the cheapest of all companies (budget direct). Just car was about $2400 I think. I wouldnt even bother ringing the rest, but its always good to shop around you never know
But wait... There's more!!
But that's not all!!!

hahaha
the list needed a 3rd thing
Nice car by the way highendrev
"Elder's"
IM not sure if you have them where you live, we are on a farm package and from memory i think it was just going on $700 to have my vl turbo insured and im 18,
that's under my parent's tho, and was around $1100 by my self.
VN Wagon,
Just so that everyone knows...
Just Car Insurance and Shannons ARE the SAME company. BOTH are owned by AAMI insurance, they are the H2P sections of AAMI (Hard To Place).
Just Car Insurance is the low end section and do not do monthly instalments, only yearly payments up front. Just Car does 3rd Party Fire and Theft and Full Comp.
Shannons is the top end section, and do NOT do 3rd Party Fire and Theft. They are a tad more expensive than Just Car but will offer a better policy and do monthly instalments.
So basically, 3rd Party Fire and Theft means Just Car, Full Comprehensive means Shannons Insurance.
Also available is SGIC who will basically cover you no matter what. Thats who im with and they offer unlimited modifications and would insure my wheels, where Just Car would only insure either my wheels OR my bodykit...Not both.
Also the local road assistance people...whatever they are called... RACQ, RAA (in SA) etc... They all have Hard To Place sections as well, but generally are only open to those people of 21 and over, and will not insure people under the age of 21.
just wondering, does telling them youve done a defensive drivers course help at all? how about giving them details about alarms/killswitches on your car?
1995 Manual HSV Clubsport
Wade Cam :: 9.2:1 CR :: Pacemaker headers :: Twin 2.5" Exhaust :: VT Brakes
1991 Supercharged VN Berlina
9 PSI SC14 Intercooled :: Genie headers :: Twin cats :: HM Twin 2.25 exhaust :: 3.45:1 LSD
Alarms can reduce your premiums, but generally you need a good alarm.
Black wiring etc. Not coloured wiring on the alarm.
And a defensive driving course can help too.
But as I saw on tele the other night, the BEST way to reduce your premiums, is to become a chick![]()
Shit, and here I was bitching and moaning because I'm paying $697 a year for my 03 VY SS!![]()
It cost me near $400 just for 3rd party with Just Car. They were the only place that would insure my car. It's not even registered to me, and my dad couldn't even get it insured with me listed as a driver. And it's stock.
A computer lets you make more mistakes faster than any other invention in human history, with the possible exception of handguns and tequila.
Aren't Shannons over 25's only?
And just to shit ya, am paying $440 a year full comp, rating one with CGU.
last time i tried to do a online quote with shannons, im pretty sure it was 25, no licence fines for at least a year or something and minimum 3 years with last insurer
Shannons were willing to insure me here in SA? But only for full comprehensive?
lol @ AAMI, they wont even insure someone under 30 with an LS1. Idiots.
Hozy, remember this, your insurance will be void if your car exceeds power to weight ratio. So wait until your off your p's it is the easiest way to go.
PS: Look into brokers, i have full comp for my car insured for my value for $700 mark, not bad considering the mods.

I'm insured with AAMI rating one $550 / per year full comp. Can only have one mod till I'm 25 (10 months and counting) then I can stick whatever I want on it.
<davy> remember when braveheart came out and everyone said you can't have mel gibson playing a scottish guy cuz it wont be realistic?
<davy> well look at him now
<davy> an alcoholic racist
im with AAMI and i pay about $560 a year but since i pay it month i pay like 65 a month so it makes it like $700 and something... i was going to go with justcar but i didnt have the spare cash, the fire, theft, thirdparty on just car is like 550 with a stock car, and with a full modded car guess how much extra? (i ticked everything that they had) $11 extra hahahahahahaha......
AAMI = cant have more then one performance mod, if i get the best alarm out, they dont care..... doesnt take money off (they dont take it off my dads either if he gets a great alarm either and his nearly 50).... if i do advanced driving course that doesnt take anything off my payments UNTIL i go full comp, i feel ripped, BUT ill do it one day for fun anywayhaha anyway since your car is modded most wont touch u so i recomend going just car....
enjoy
btw i have thirs party, fire, theft...
While we are talking insurance here, instead of creating a new thread... does anyone know of any insurance companies/brokers that fully cover heavily modified show car standard commodores? Other than shannons they also have to cover stereo system.
I rang Just Car to see if they would ensure me while I was learning in my dads VY SS (Current model at the time). I was 16, and they said that AAMI (their parent company or wahtever they are) would actually ensure me =| .... I cant remember how much it was... Over 3grand I think, but that was a while ago, maybe things have changed
But wait... There's more!!
But that's not all!!!
