Default Engine mounts... Is this mechanic full of B.S?

Some of you may have read in the 'my ride' section that my car was involved in a major rear ender 3 months ago. Problems are still being sorted out. The smash repairer out sourced some work to a mechanic including replacing broken engine mounts. With these 'new' mounts the engine can be moved from side to side with one hand. When you give it a few revs it really starts to flex side to side. I complained to the mechanic directly and he said they were replaced with "genuine Holden engine mounts and they are supposed to do that". He also went on to say that as engine mounts start to get older they drop up to an inch and then harden. Is this guy full of crap? I even spoke to my father in law who knows better than most and he said if they twist like that they'll eventually snap.

    Whos telling the truth?

the engine mounts can seem to be soft as they do have a fair bit of movement in them, i wouldnt worry unless you have a vibration or noise problem

yeh, i just replaced my engine mounts with hydraulic ones, and they shake the engine a little bit, id wait a few weeks and if the motor is still shaking, check them out and see if they really did change them.

The mechanic is right. They drop and harden over time. Ive broken 2 sets now, so been there done that. Usually the passenger side one breaks because of the way the engine torques up.

Thanks for the info guys. They diffeinately changed them. I got rear ended so hard that the engine was left sitting on the cross member. I feel a bit suspicious as to whether they did a dodgy fix or not. Anyone else got any opinions?

get another person to check them out or go to holden and ask them to check and see if there holden ones.
Ring holden and ask if it should do them when they have been replaced.
