just wondering if there are any legalities involving tail light tints? are they legal/illegal and how dark can they be?
cheers
Insurance say is has to be visable by a certain distance.
From what i have gathered tinting your lights is pointless if you want to stay legal.
Are you talking about using night shades?

Read the ADR's man. Theres all these details about how far away you need to be able to see the light at night and day... Brightness of the light and colour of the light during night and day.
Also, you cannot tint the reflector on tail lights AT ALL.
Where do we find these ADR's? For people like me who are to lazy to google.
Linky Plz whiteVN2NV dude.... (I still can't be bothered typing your name...lol)

completely illegal.
the reason you can buy it, it's supposed to be for show cars only, entering into such things as Show and Shine's at like Summernats, or Autosalons.
Although I've done it myself, if you want to get defected, go nuts.

Have funI looked it up when I went to Regency... Im pretty sure i've posted the info on JC before too.. But I don't remember where or when.
But theres several ADR's to do with each light... Brake lights...Tail Lights... Reverse Lamps etc. so find the ADR's relevant on that site and try searching through to get the info...
There is another site that lists it clearly but I dont seem to be able to find it.
im surprised a barina i see get around near my area hasnt been stickered yet, at night his lights are tinted almost jet back ( during the day the taillights look straight black ) looks ok but almost couldnt see his stop lights, was lucky i didnt tail end him, couldnt see the stops come on.
attn Über geeks, i play Second life. Patrio Graysmark.
thanks guys
i had been going to start importing tints for australian cars. i didn't see anything on that website to say that tints weren't allowed but anyways might give it a miss!
Tail light tints?... what the hell?
Who would pay to have tail lights actually tinted rather than using the spray on stuff![]()
because you get get it done with 2pak paint or something that lets more light through or something, and doesnt make it all dull and crap like nightshades.
He appears to be talking about actual tints... like the Films... not 2pac or anything.
Depends really, i had my stock vs lights tinted for about 3 months, and i didnt get even pulled over..and i was seen lots of times by cops, and i still havent been pulled over at all for a defect check, being on my P's its actually surprising!!!
Ive not got altezza lights, they are legal i understand though. Arnt they?
Regarding Victorian laws, Altezza's are only legal if they have the propert colours (amber for indicators, red brakes etc etc) and they feature a reflector SOMEWHERE
As long as your brake lights, driving lights, indicators and reverse lights are visible night and day from 200metres, you can do what you want to them.
