    Default Polishing

well im thinking about polishing up my rocker cover, but i am not sure on the process of doing it and some little facts i am thinking about.

what is the product i need? is it called silvero? (diffrent type of brasso)

what prep should be used on the rocker cover? (i am able to get it sand blasted would that work good enough?)
and also how long does the polish last and is there anyways to preseve it and make it stay on with out getting dull and fading?

sorry for all the questions too

    cheers

auto sol is the stuff to use... and elbow grese.. it takes ages!! i done it to my old cover and after its done your forever cleaning it from dirty crap and finger prints, it does get dull after a while and you will just have to go over it again... if i went back i would get it done by a pro... too much trouble!
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!

Unless your keen on sitting down I'd pay someone to do it, gets a bit exy though, although pro's jobs last alot longer and look a thousand times glossier.

I think you should expect to only pay around 50-100 for a rocker cover. Get it sandblasted, thats an ideal start, then its a matter of getting it back to a very smooth metal finish, then going over it, and over it, with autosol.

If you have a bench grinder go to bunnings and get yourself a polishing wheel and some cutting/ polishing compound to go with it. Still takes ages.

Clear would keep it glossy, but if its in heat it either melts off or goes yellow. So I'm curious to see how it'd go on a rocker cover, shouldn't be too bad, worth a try either way.

For all that time and effort and the fact the finish wont last too long by what these guys are saying you'd be better off getting the thing chromed. Thats what I'll be doing to mine.

My first one was stripped and then sanded and re-sprayed to match the colour of my car but the spare I have now is getting chromed for sure.

cheers for all the info and replys but i think im going to go a diffrent route and paint it, as polishing seems to much of a head %$#@ and chroming is bit pricey when i want to swap the motor in the near future.

so most likly going to paint it black with vht wrinkle paint

    cheers all
