well the most important question....whats your budget??
there isnt terribly much difference in the V8's from VN-VS, although the VS has slightly more power and torque - 168kw and 395Nm as opposed to 165kw and 385Nm of torque. then there is ofcourse the ones with HSV option package with 185kw.
calais are a much nicer car in my opinion, very comfy plush seats and all the other little extras like the level 3 dash.
for quite a luxurious car with lots of grunt id look around for a nice VS calais.

If you want luxuary and performance, get a VP Calais International Obviously i'm a little biast on the subject tho...

VP SSs are still holding their money, and most times fetch more than a VR or VS. VN SSs are the flavour of the month, so every man and his dog have them.

VR/S Calais' are great, but the money most still ask is way over the top. But i you go a VS Calais, and a 5L isn't a must, go for the Super6 (series II only i think) as they have better torque than the 5L

Go a Calais. I drive two VR's, a Execcy at work, and my own car is a Calais. The Calais is miles better. A very comfortable ride and cruise control is a must have.

You should be able to pick up a decent Calais for that.

Id suggest against a VT 5L, as there heavier and slower than the VS.

You should find a 5L VR Calais for anything around 8000 (SA) but i wouldn't think eastern states are 4000 higher than that.

If you've got that much bread to spread... buy a Calais VS Series2 Supercharged 6 when you see a good one...I think there's a Silver one for around $9000 in one of the online classified in SA atm.

Supercharged 6 is heaps better on fuel and will absolutely kill stock 5L's v8 with grunt off the line... a very good car for the money...I don't recommend getting a VT 5L they had teething issues with the IRS chewing tyres and are heavier, slower, and use more fuel !!!

hrmm.. ive also been looking at a gen 3 vt ss if i saved a bit more. what kms are decent? because all i find is ones with about 140,000+ for decent prices.. under 100,000 people are asking like 18-20k still which is a bit too much.

a series ll vt ss with an LS1 and the k's you want would be out of your price range...a series l would be do-able, but they didnt come with the LS1, so you may as well buy a VS with the same engine.

If you go changing the ride height with lowered springs you have to fit camber adjusters to re-align the camber...

I've had no problems with my IRS and I've done 15,000Kms in one year on half worn tyres and there's no inside wear at all...
