Does anyone know how to fine tune a 350 holley? I just cant get it right...gggrrrr
Is the 350 stock? For a mild 202 a 350 out of the box should work "almost" perfectly.... What exactly is the problem?
Back in the day when I had my XU1 I messed around with lots of intakes... The 350 was ok if you pottered around and gave the go pedal a quick stab, but it let you down mid range and top end. I gave up on the two barrel carbs (even the 500) as they just didn't give me enough mid and top end. I tried a 465 (yes thats a 4 barrel), a 600 Vac Sec, a 650 DP and an 850 Vac Sec just for laughs. Turns out the 465 was the most drivable day to day, the 600 & 650 fantastic for top end, but horrible for daily driving, sucked to much juice. The 850, that was just and experiment, well laughs coz it was laying around. Tried triple webers for a while, no one could tune the suckers properly and they just sucked too much juice. I ended up getting some guy in the city (Melb CBD) about 20 years ago convincing me to put the triple SU's back on and letting him tune it. To this day I reckon nothing I've driven was as fun to drive as a well tuned original GTR-XU1..
Thanks for that. You would be right about the mid and top end range. The take off is not bad but when it gets to about 3000-4500 rpm mark it starts to splutter. Ive begun to install a holley fuel pump and a delco remy distributor. That should kick it in the nuts a bit...lol
why dont you go supercharger with the 202, you can buy a setup ready to bolt on .... if you change the cam from standard then you have to change the power valve in the holly .... i'm sure you can get a 4 barrel 350 and 500 holly too ... the thing is about carbs, you cant get the same air-fuel ratio all through the rev range .... its like the primary jet runs out at about 60 kph then in comes the secomdary jets ... when you put the pedal down and open up the carb's butterflys, the manifold vacum drops and then the power valve opens up and lets the fuel flow into the engine a lot more ...
where can u find the bolt on supercharger setups?+
have a read here .... http://www.jason.fletcher.net/tech/c...carbtuning.htm .... and you might find something here to help too ... http://www.hotrodders.com/kb/browselinks.php?c=69
The fuel pump and the dizzy will give you a small improvement, in that the carb wont starve for fuel... The sputtering you mentioned definitely sounds like a lack of fuel. If all is well with your setup, it shouldn't sputter, more like just won't go any faster/rev more. And that's the limit with a 350....
One thing I never got around to trying was the old turbo on the 202, apparently the old red/blue/black block takes to it quite well with a 12 port head. But, I also wanted to try a twin turbo 3.8 (when the 3.8 first came out), got married, settled down, had kids, no funds, the usual story, LOL!!!! In a small (re: LJ/LC Torana) car it would have been awesome...
Anyway, we'll need more info to suggest further recommendations, i.e. cam profile, head work, rocker ratio, car body, etc, etc. The more info you give us the more we can help..
Get supercharger boltons from here .... http://www.rodshop.com.au/superchargerhold6.htm
