what are the benefits of having a rear spoiler - for example on a VP for general driving?
I know they look nice, but I'm sure there must be some benefits.
Aside from looks, there isn't much benefit from having a spoiler. The main benefit of a spoiler is using it as a guide for the end of your car when reversing. Unless you are doing very high speeds, aerodynamically, it will not have any effect on handling. Even then, regular spoilers aren't designed to provide aerodynamic assistance so their effect would be minimal.
i once spoke to a guy who designed body kits for HSV. it's for styling.
having said that, holden have a wind tunnel at port melb. they could test them.
A matter of opinion on looks, i think they look terrible! LOL.
i think rear wings would stop the boot from opening all the way up if it came open while you was driving .... oh .... also a good place for putting in the neon extra brake light ...
haha, your not serious about the holding the boot down are you?
ever tried opening the door when your driving at around 80, you'll be hard pressed to even get a few inches out of it.
Spoilers on Road cars are pointless, unless its a specifit build car like a walky or GTS-R.

VT Calais II... The Italian Stallion
Just another thing to clean, and ain't they a biatch to clean???
Not like the old days when we had a kicker on the lid like an XU1/A9X/GTS, etc.... And a front "Air Dam" that directed air to the brakes... Aaaaaahhh the good ol' days!!!!
Although, as already stated, you'd have to be going warp speed to make any real use of them (re: Supercar speeds)....
