Angry Paint damage - bird droppings

    Howdy,

About a week or so ago I noticed that a bird had crapped on my bonnet in a couple of spots but being this time of year things are pretty hectic and I didn't get around to cleaning it 'til yesterday morning. Whilst chamoising off the car I noticed that some of the crap was still stuck on so I scraped at it with my nail and the paint came off with it in 2 spots that are pretty significant. Being phantom mica it stands out even more!

I have had crap on a car before but never seen it do this sort of damage. I bought my crewman in June and had paint protection done as well so one would assume that this would have given it additional protection as per their claims??

I am going to approach the dealership and see if I can get it fixed under the paint protection warranty as I figure the whole bonnet will probably need to be re-sprayed. failing this amybe I'll contact Holden as well and see what they say (probably bugger off?)

Has this happened to anyone else?

    Cheers,
    Joe

    Unhappy Droppings

    G'day Joe,
    Unwanted luck with your Paint.
Are you sure it is Birds?
Bats and Flying Foxes leave VERY nasty messes which I remember it being Acidic.

Better than out here, Sulphur Crested, Galahs and even C0ckatiels make a Mess AND Dint
when they decide to do a Kamikaze.
Near on inevitable out here sooner or Later

If you paid for paint protection you should be covered as long as you used their car wash/polish ect...
read the fine print before you go in, as im sure they dont cover some things like eggs and bats....

Paint protection doesn't cover either bird droppings or industrial fallout, and it has to be re-applied every year. Basically its a rip off and good for absolutely nothing. But approach the dealer still. I had the same problem with my SS with bird crap on the roof.
They weren't obliged to respray the roof, but they did anyway. So don't lose hope.

And yeah the whole bonnet will need to be resprayed. Once it is fixed, do yourself a favour and give it a good polish with something like www.zymol.com.au

Expensive stuff but cheaper than the crappy paint protection they flog off at car dealers.

Thanks for the replies guys, you have given me some hope so I'll give the dealer a ring tomorrow and see how I go. Glad to hear that there is someone else out there that has been through this before.

I must say that I agree that this paint protection does seem to be crap, all I seem to have got out of it so far are the swirl marks from them applying it. After I get it fixed I will use paint cleaner to get it all off and start polishing it properly.
