I am not talking about the automated one's but do it yourself.Due to the next stage water restrictions here in victoria we are now forced to use them if we want to wash our cars.I have heard that the recycled water they use is treated
with a salty solution for re use. This I feel can cause rust over time especially inside the windscreen grill areas. What are the experiences of people on this forum that have used these D.Y.O car washers.I have seen 4 wheel drive's that have been off road covered in mud use these car washers to clean their cars.
Does the recycling process completely remove these abrasive mud particles from the water as I don't want to have my car covered in scratches after I've washed it at one of these car washers.
We've just gone level 3 here in SA as well.
I refuse to use them as the hand brushes leave heaps of scratches and swirl marks all over my clear coat.
lol, people have no innovation these days.
I have in my shower a 20 litre bucket, it catches initial turn on water and final rinse water, i put this water into a 44 gallon plastic drum i have in my shed, when i want to wash my car, i plug my karcher into the hose socket of the 44, my cars get to stay clean and i am not breaking any law, i am simply recycling water. Our neighbours dobbed us in and barwon water simply guys simply said they were going home to do the same thing. You can use final rinse of washing machine water, use most bath water, just takes a little bit of work
I refuse to use a car wash bay simply because of the possible things you stated. Plus i refuse to pay $1 for 2 minutes into some other persons pocket.

Now I'm gonna miss washing my VS at home. By reading this thread I'm starting to feel bad about these car washes. I was about to go there in the next two days!!! Now I don't think I should go.
I've used them since I got mine brand new. But the one thing I've never done is use the foaming brush on my duco. No one ever cleans them after they've used it so they are ususually full of grit and anything alse that scratches. If it's that dirty take your own sponges.
Never had any rust issues after 6 years.

I use the high hose options... But not the foaming brush.
Just take a bucket and sponge, and squirt some high pressure soap into the bucket, then use your sponge rather than the foaming brush.
one of mates told me one of his best friend went to go wash his yaris and he didnt want to use the brush, and he took his own bucket and sponge..... the guy at the car wash told him he cant use it bla bla bla and he had to use the brush, so he didnt wash his car..... id tell them to go f*ck thereselves if he said that to me.. haha![]()
Sorry atta boy I didn't mean to scare you off,I posted this thread so I can find out as much information about these car washers as possible.Minux you have great ideas there and that $1 for two minutes is a rip off,It would be impossible to wash your car in that time.Getting back to the chemical they use to recycle the water can anyone confirm that it is corrosive to your car.Again everyone thanks for your replies.
yeh this is what i do...use the pressure hose to clean off all the crud and then use mums wiping mit thing to clean off everything else. and normally ill polish my car in the bay as well, so im there for 30-40 mins and i only pay them 2 bucks. don't think its to bad. the water used at this one i go to i dont believe is recycled as it smells like tap water (chlorine smell).
cheers

What I do, if I have the time..
Go and use the High pressure standard water.. Get the bulk of the crap off. Then use high pressure soap.. Pay particular attention to detail here, spend some time.. then rinse it off with water once again.. give the car a good soaking with "spot free rinse" drive aroudn to the back of the wash and chamois.
What he said. But I go one step further and take my own cleaning products.
Been using J & J baby shampoo to wash my car lately. Its cheap and works a treat!
Attaboy, rain water tanks don't come under restrictions. Can do whatever you like with it as long as it isn't supplemented by the mains.
one problem with using the rain water tanks
they probably wouldn't have any water in them LOL
We got rep back, yaaay!
i only use them every now and then when its really dirty before i use the brush i give it a good gurni than that should get all the dirt and grit out of it
But is still wash my car at home (no restrictions yet got 4 dams that supply us) but at least i do it on the lawn so that keeps the lawn green
Waterless car wash cleaners? rightios
