ok im looking at geting either a vs senator 215 or save up and buy the first available model from holden that came out with a ls1 motor in it wich i think is the vt-vx I know the ls1 is faster and all the rest but the fact that the vs is a hsv is another contributing factor as it should help to hold the cars resale for the future. but also the question it got me thinking which is out of both engines wich has the beter fuel economy
Well the ls1 was released in the vt series 2 range.
I've had a vt with the ls1 and found it pretty good, mind you i didn't flog it, it just putted around town with my wife behind the wheel most of the time but overall it wasn't bad on fuel.
The 308 (or 355) i think are a bit heavier but not 100% sure there as i have never owned one, my brother used to have a 308 in his vs and it was thirsty around town, or so he said.
Depends how you drive them of course, at the end of the day.
nice daily driver the berlina is sweetive got a vs calais v6 at the moment and am not to happy with it the worst part is i only bought it 6 months ago
( its been overheating done full reco on cooling system and still no joy) and to top it of the old mans got a nc fairlane that we go to work in and the damn things got a 5litre and it gets better fuel economy than my v6 ##@* he gets 12 litres to 100klm and that cruisein around town whereas my calais gets 15 to the 100klm hence why now the time has come to get a v8 and i dont give a dame what the inlaws think!
I would have to say the ls1. It is tuned and built to run as a family vehicle so economy would have to be a selling point. If you compare that to the hsv which is more performance inspired and also has i higher capacity economy would be a weakness not to mention the differences in engine management.
Go the LS1- If you can afford it....![]()
An LS1 putting out 230 rwkw can still get around 10l/100km on the highway and around 13-14 in the city with normal driving. For me that sort of economy cannot be matched
My XR8 in city driving has never been under 17![]()

hhhmmm what to do?? ive always wanted a vs senator but i agree that the ls1 is definately the better option as far as economy/peformance goes but the 355 has a beautiful note and enough tourqe to pull a stump out of the ground but is indeed lacking in the higher end of the rev range (compared to the ls1) but then again the senator will turn more heads than a stock vt ss especialy when you hear that growl pulling up to the lights. damn it cant have the cake and eat it to i supose. gues i will have to take em both for a spin see which hits home the best oh well thanks for the info anyways cheers!
But the LS1 is missing the torqueCan't have it both ways....
355 FTW, but the LS1 will be cheaper to run, purchase cost the Sennie would probably be a bit more than a VTII SS if in good condition.
Driving a CURSED WH V6.
That is fixed with 3.7's and a nice cam head package. My NA LS1 which i have spent only about 20k on engine mods and driveline mods, is a fulls econd faster over the 1/4 then my chargd and stroked VN SS. The launch my LS1 gets is simply amazing compared to what i got with my 355.

easy 12 second passes unopened with an LS1![]()
ive been looking around and was wondering what the ls1 hsv vt senator would go like? or would it be a bit of a slug because of the extra creature comforts? and yeah i do want the torque of the 355 but i spose you could swap the cam in the ls1 for something a bit chunkierive picked up some extra fundswhich could get me the vt senator maybe
