hey guys.
thinking about getting myself a VS Commodore (great starter car in my opinion)
i was wondering how i could make it sound really mean
yea i could but a cat-back on it. but would a induction kit and that make it sound any nicer?
and if i only wanted a nice sound should i only put a exhaust system on it?
A VS V6 wont really give you a nice sound in my honest opinion, not just with a standard cat back exhaust. Im not keen on the sound of the ecotecs at all.
My VS sounds like a blender on sterroids without an exhaust. Friends with VS V6's with exhausts dont sound terribly great either... Definitely NOT really mean.
They don't rumble, if that's what you are after. If you are after something more brutal, go a VR with the buick....
The VS can get sounding ok, but it'll never be the best.
Driving a CURSED WH V6.
make the the best with what ever you get. good induction can help change the note at the other end of the car.
a great starter??? geeez what are you aiming for?? a Ferrari?? haha
a great starter is a VB mate!!
and i agree re the exhaust note it sounds terrible....damn!!
Nissans and Mitsi's and dare i say it fords sound good....
Pity they are not as good as Holdens in general!!
Get a cat-back exhaust with no rear muffler/resonator
yeah cat back exhaust with no reso will make it a louder exhaust. If you want the burble of a v8 get a stroked six like sircruisealot. Closest sound to a v8 without owning one.
<davy> remember when braveheart came out and everyone said you can't have mel gibson playing a scottish guy cuz it wont be realistic?
<davy> well look at him now

so i should get a VR with a catback on it?
the induction i was gonna get was from ssinductions
seeing the VR is the same shape as the VS but with slightly less power i could just get new badges (or just take em and leave em off) and the lights)
alto the only VR's i can find have around 200K km on em which is a lil too much for paying 6-8k for em
how hard can it be to find a stroked 6 or just the engine to one?
also how much grunt do the VR-VS got?
oh and clinster
i was aiming for a porsche lmao =)

i seen a few vs ecotecs going around town and they sound absolutely brilliant
mates got a vs 6 with extractors full 2 1/2" zorst with a hotdog on in and that sounds nuts!!! better than a lot of V8's goin round....whoever said an ecotec doesn't sound good hasn't herd my mates vs!
i have yet to hear a buick that isn't droney....manual will sound different though. my ecotec sounds by far better than any buick i ave erd.....but maybe i avent erd any decent ones![]()
Check out my ride here...E Series Chubby
I paid 6k for my VS last year and they are in high demand in QLD. That was for 150ks and owned by two old people.
Go for a VN Series 1 if you want the nice note cause with a good exhaust they sound nice and it will be quicker than a VR or VS. If you have about 9 - 10k get yourself a VS V6 S/c Calais or and SS. With the SS you get the nice note and with the S/c calais you get the whine of the supercharger.
I wouldn't pay more than 4 and a half for a VR in good nick.
Stroked six will cost you $6k for a full engine including heads then you have to install it and if you box craps itself upgrade it.

G'day LordHSV,
Why don't you get it well and truely sorted first and get to know the car.
You might find some of what you Want to do, might well be not what the car needs.

I only had crap fours before this so I cannot compare with other commodores but I enjoy it. As the VS keep getting cheaper look at maybe a luxury model like a calais. If you're old enough you can get an VS SS for 10k but unless you're over 25 you wont get insurance. I find that the Ecotecs don't have a lot of options in the aftermarket department when compared with the buick or supercharged ecotecs or Australian 5L.
Also with the age of the VS you'll have to spend a bit just to fix things up that have deteriorated over time. If it's a project look for a straight body. I mean if you are going to stick a stroker in an a beefed up gearbox it doesn't matter what the starting condition is. If you are going to build on it look around and find the right one. Good nick well looked after regularly serviced is what you want to look for.
I spent six months looking around for my VS before I settled and got a bargain. Same thing at a trader was 10k with more kilometers so go private. Get an RACQ check before you buy. Don't buy the first thing you see unless you know its a great deal.
Also set yourself a budget. Inlcude at least a 1 grand for fix up
e.g. car 6k, fix up 1k mods 3k so all up you'll pay 10k
Also use http://www.redbook.com.au as a reference for prices gives you specs when new such as power and fuel economy (power will be less and fuel economy will be more as it gets older)

yea i was gonna do something like get the RAA to check it before i bought it
i found one at a yard its like 8000 at 130,000km i feel its a lil over priced for a 95 model
yea i may need to have a tune up done before i start modding it
i should go private cause then a car salesguy cant pull any sly tricks
i aint gonna get a 8 (cause then my folks wont help me out with it and they wont let me park it next to the garage and lock it behind a fence. and the insurance. it was hard enough to make em let me get a commodore) i should go a calais but i may have trouble finding one
when it gets closer to my 16th and i have enough cash ill post a thread here describing what im after and if anyone can help
after i had it all running right i was gonna put a CAI on. lower it, extractors, a catback and some rockers
carsales.com.au has a calais but its like 4-5 hours away
sounds good mate, cai is $50 for all new parts if you get it from holden. Its about $800 - 1k to get it lowered you might find a calais that's optioned with FE2 suspension which is lower and harder. Full exhaust including extractors is 1k fitted and rockers are 850 - 900 from fit for 1.91 ratio. Because you are young you're probably better putting the car in your parents name and being a listed driver. Will make your insurance cheaper. You will need to run all your mods past your insurance people. With AAMI I am only allowed one "mod". You will get in heaps of sh!t if you crash and your insurance company doesn't know about something because they won't pay out. If you hit a beemer and I've seen it happen you will be in debt till you're sixty.
Also with the calais you get all the nice extras. If you live in the bush it may be worth going to Sydney and line up a few cars when you get there check em all out and find one you like.

go the VS. I have a V6 VS acclaim
i just got a new Exhaust system - a set of pacemakers and a 2 1/2 system. sounds very nice and when you floor it people will notice and its sounds sweet and loud.
the rest of the car is stock except of course the looks. Also the seats are now VS Caprice seats so the rides very nice. (Running FE2 springs all round)
this video shows what it sounds like taking of in 1st (auto) and then just going up and down the street. i just wanted to know how loud it is when driving like you should (i work early mornings and don't want to wake everyone)
i will post another video of what it sounds like when taking off foot to the floor

they said i may be able to buy their 02 VX series 2 if they do
=D

i think it corrupted when you uplaoded it
cause i cant play it not even with nero showtime
