Would come in handy for diagnosing a few problems.. But apart from that, whats it do?
G'day
i have had my datalogger(see Below) for quite some time now, i was wondering if any one else had one for vn-vr commodore. so that i can compair numbers.
My AVGs
This was a run from 0-100.
Coolant Temp 64.2
SPEED 39.1
MAP 44.5
RPM 1270
MAT 48.8
O2 .446
Battery Voltage 13.4
WHAT IT IS
Pic 1 // Cable
pic 2 // Interface
WHAT IT DOSE
These streams will give you all sensory readouts, Like:
IAC (Idle air Control)
Coolent temp
Speed (VSS)
MAP Sensor
RPM
TPS
IFR
MAT
O2 Sensor
Battery Voltage
The Interface Also Displays Fault Codes:
Malfflag1: Malfflag2: Malfflag3:
12 Engine Not Running
13 Oxygen Sensor
14 Coolant Temp High
15 Coolant Temp Low
21 TPS High
22 TPS Low
23 IAT / MAT Low (Air Temp)
24 VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor)
25 IAT / MAT High (Air Temp)
31 Governor Fail
32 EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation)
33 Map High (Manifold Air Pressure)
34 Map Low (Manifold Air Pressure)
35 NOT USED
41 NOT USED
42 EST (Electronic Spark Timing)
43 Knock ESC
44 02 Lean (Oxygen Sensor)
45 02 Rich (Oxygen Sensor)
51 Prom Error (Chip Error)
55 ADU Error
54 Fuel Pump Relay Failure
53 NOT USED
CAL Pack Missing
Would come in handy for diagnosing a few problems.. But apart from that, whats it do?
any idea on what the cost is?????
around 80$
You can build them yourself ..
VP/VN: http://www.techedge.com.au/vehicle/aldl160/aldl_hw.htm
VR/VS/Early VT: http://www.techedge.com.au/vehicle/a...2/8192baud.htm
I've currently ordered parts to start building my own for the VS .. software can be gotten free, such as EFILive!
Sorry, http://www.techedge.com.au/vehicle/aldl8192/8192hw.htm for the cable diagram for the VR/VS
I built a multi channel A to D converter for a project for UNI this semsester, just plugs into parallel port on PC and graphs, records data in linux.
I was just going to patch it in to analog signals in the car
fuel,
throttle
o2 sensor
opening etc etc
And maybe some digital inputs to measure
Speed
what gear the auto is in
Havent started yet, i want to make a few improvements to the board i submitted for the project before i would hook it up to the car.
lord data, that pic has a build in design fault, so people cant steel his idea, both pics are wrong. dont bother trying to do one from the techedge site, ive gone threw way to many ecu's in the past to do it anymore, the ecu tally to date stands at 6, so yeah, the techedge site is realy a waiste of time
cheers
garth
i am the god of britany spears womanizer on just dance on the wii
DOes that mean you cant get one for the VN?
Thats all right, thats ok, I drive a commodore anyway!!!!
yes,
vn-vp is around 80$
and
vr-early vt is 100$
schematics for cable on winaldl page work no smokin ecu's yet seems to work fine
I jusy have one of these, shows alot more info than yours though
RPM
KPH
Intake Air Temperature
Mass Air Flow Sensor Frequency
Mass Air Flow Sensor (lb/min.)
Engine Coolant Temperature
Injector Pulse Width (bank 1 and 2 if supported)
Long Term Fuel Trim (bank 1 and 2 if supported)
Short Term Fuel Trim (bank 1 and 2 if supported)
O2 Sensor Voltage (bank 1 and 2 if supported)
Manifold Pressure in PSI (Boost pressure for factory
turbo/supercharger applications)
Ignition Advance
Knock Retard
Engine Run Time
Battery Voltage
Transmission Temperature
Idle air Control Counts
Throttle Position Percentage
Throttle Position Voltage
Engine Load
Oil pressure (some 8 cylinder engines)

Heres a log I did yesterday mate I live in nz and have no O2 sensor but it looks like theres a calculated value in the data still
ViperVp .... doesnt the temp at 64.2 seem a bit cold ..... my VX runs in the 90's ....
Yeah I just put a new thermostst in 2day used to sit on cold now sits two bars up on the temp guage fuel milage has increased tremendosly (thank god for that). And now the radiator fan ive never heard going goes fine turns on just before half hot.Ill have a new log tomorrow mate Ill post it up for a comparison.
I only bought the car to plug the laptop in .And cos im holden mad.
log of my mates vn running bad lots of fuel smoke out the exhaust doesnt like coming off idle
Those ones use the OBD2 protocol which is used in VT onwards, and might be used in earlier V8s... I dunno. If you have a VN-VS V6 then you'll want an ALDL one. michaelw makes a usb ALDL to PC interface and you can get most of those readings via that using EFILive... download a trial version of EFILive V4 (make SURE its V4... not V7) and load the profile for your car to see what readings you can get for it. The virtual dashboard is EXCELLENT! also if you search for 'hakhawk' on youtube, he's got a video of EFILive running on his laptop showing the virtual dashboard.
I have ordered one from michaelw for $65 + $10 express post and it should arrive tomorrowI am going to log a few trips to see if i'm getting knock retard with this mental amount of boost for the stock tune lol.
IMHO $75 is an extremely small price to pay to get an intimate understanding of what your engine is doing at any given time!
* Phreddy's Blaupunkt Aux input and line out mod
* 18x8 inch Equus Kalibur Wheels with Maxxis MAV-1 235/40R18
* Sureflo 3.5 inch medium-loud cat back exhaust
looks like a fantastic thing to have minux... if my car was OBD2 I would buy one in a flash... expected far worse than $180 too!! very impressive![]()
